So you live for the sweeteners, not to wait.

Agreed. After the clusterfuck that was the Supreme Court's gutting of the Voting Rights Act, this was a bit of a consolation.

And I say "consolation" because, while gay rights is nice and all, the fact that they may have just destroyed our democracy between that boneheaded ruling and Citizens United, it seems like we're losing a larger war here even as we won that battle.

Well if you want a sincere answere then it is that I determine my life`s meaning through the judgements others make of me. I do want to be well remembered when I go and certainly want to contribute to the wellbeing of others. That is what gives me purpose.

Sweeteners are as we say "eine Beilage".

However, what are you teaching your children about religion, God, how the universe came to be? I would suspect you are "brainwashing" them with Atheism, evolution, and the Big Bang theory.

This is where it all went downhill.

The major difference, I have noticed, between atheists and theists in respect to what is taught to their children is that theists tend to teach there is only one truth, in relation to god, whereas atheists simply never mention god to their children. Atheists allow their children to learn of the world on their own, choosing for themselves the beliefs they wish to incorporate into their lives, whereas theists from day one pummel the word of god into the minds of their children.

I could be wrong about how atheists here are raising their children, but what I mentioned is how I would raise my children if I ever had any.

Yes you can't genralise so much Maelstrom. Your one truth is that there is no god is it not? I rarely discuss God with my kids. When they ask we pretty much cover all angles, as much as I can help. You need to be responsible and not overload them, but they can pretty much suss it out. Indoctrination gets you no where. Everyone has to work it out for themselves. If you present no choice what happens when the person discovers there is a choice? And faith is a very personal choice that isn't faith if you don't think about it. I tell my kids what I think and why. I listen to their thoughts and encourage them to think for themselves. You can only present information as honestly as possible.

There's no point in mentioning "god" to kids. It's a silly ancient concept that has no place in the modern world.

Religion, however, is something they needed to be warned about. That does exist to the detriment of humanity.

That's how I raised my two, anyway.

I ever have any kids *snort* I'll just tell them "there's a lot of views of the world out there. Remember to question everything, though, and look at the evidence, and how well-founded it is. Don't just believe something because it's told to you. There might be a man who tells you he has candy in his van but you have to come with him to see it. Think about his other possible ulterior motives. Consider them carefully. Do this with everything. Consider everything. And remember...what is true, and what is real, aren't always the same."

In other words think for yourself and think reasonably. I defy someone to try to point out how that is indoctrination.

I will do as my parents did, minus one detail. They raised me to appreciate science, use critical thinking, and never impress any of my beliefs onto my children. The one thing I won't do is take my kids to church every Sunday like my parents did.

ETA: BTW, the endgame of my atheism is to sleep in every Sunday morning until the day I die.
