50 Simple Proofs, God is Imaginary
RE: 50 Simple Proofs, God is Imaginary
The bible actually condemns outward expression CP. In acknowledging God you align yourself with perfection. That God would gain vainly is absurd and unsupported.

Then I suggest you go read that bible again.Everyone worshipped God in dance, song, shouting praises and even bowing in submission and recognition of his great grandeur. You must be quoting from the fr0d0 version of scripture. If you are going to uphold the bible then you must accept the quotes from the bible.

And please show me from the bible where it condemns outward expression chapter and verse when it comes to worshiping God.Seriously my friend you should start the church of fr0d0 and rewrite the bible in its entirety on your own and subtitle it 'The word of the Lord according to fr0d0.'

Fr0d0,

I agree with Chatpilot; here's why:

2 Samuel 6:5

Quote:5 David and the whole house of Israel were celebrating with all their might before the LORD, with songs [d] and with harps, lyres, tambourines, sistrums and cymbals.

2 Samuael 6:14-15

Quote:14 David, wearing a linen ephod, danced before the LORD with all his might, 15 while he and the entire house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouts and the sound of trumpets.

In a linen ephod no less! Is that any way for a king to behave?

2 Samuel 6:6-7

Quote:6 When they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah reached out and took hold of the ark of God, because the oxen stumbled. 7 The LORD's anger burned against Uzzah because of his irreverent act; therefore God struck him down and he died there beside the ark of God.

Uzzah only touched the ark and was smote. So obviously if there had been even a slight problem with the way they were worshiping they would have been smote.

@ CP:

Mathew 6:6 "But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."

"Christ is also dealing with a particular practice of the Pharisees. They made a big show of praying so that everyone would know just how spiritual they were. They were proud and ostentatious in their prayers so that others would see them. That is: they took what should have been their private prayer life and made a public show of it so that others would be amazed at their spirituality. This is akin today to those who continually brag on how much time they spend in prayer. Christ was teaching us that our personal prayer life is not to be displayed in public." ..source

Fr0d0,

You should change this statement to be about prayer only. God does not condemn outward expression in toto, but I would agree that prayer is not meant to be boisterous and you have supported that while simultaneously creating a strawman for us to knock down by your inaccurate wording that I have quoted.

Bravo,Rhizo!! That is exactly what I meant, the bible is chock full of admonishments to worship and praise the Lord through the outward expression.Aside from the ritualistic requirements there is also the worship of God through praise and all of the outward expressions of said praise have following purposes:acknowledging the greatness of God,submitting your will to God,and expressing your gratitude to that deity for the multitudinous benefits of gaining his favor.

Psalm 150:1-6
1.Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.

2.Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.

3.Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.

4.Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.

5.Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.

6.Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.

Wow fr0d0 of all people you are the last one that I thought would make such a silly mistake! You are confusing praise with prayer?Say it aint so!Prayer is literally defined as talking to God.Praise is an outward expression of gratitude towards God.

Chatpilot,

I realized Fr0d0 is talking about prayer and has supported his argument nicely. I agree with his statements about PRAYER and have explained why I quoted the scripture I did. The context was prayer; he needs to tighten up his language because he failed to limit his argument to prayer as I think I have demonstrated.

So the physical expression is entirely for the comfort of the people doing the praying? It isn't actually remotely required, as God can read their minds anyway, and he doesn't really care for the physical expression?

And fr0d0,

How do the parts that you quote, where the Bible supports people worshipping God in secret through outward expression, not contradict the parts CP and Rhizo quote where it encourages singing and dancing, playing instruments, and outward expression in general, etc?

Thanks Rhizo for the correction.I just took offense to the statement he made about the bible condemning outward expression. That goes against the acts of praise and although he was speaking about prayer in most circumstances the two are related they are both different ways to address God and are intertwined.
EvF I have demonstrated that through the scriptures themselves that God loves to be praised even when you pray and silently express your gratitude to him you are praising God.The biblical God is very vain and loves attention. We are supposed to live in a spirit of thanksgiving for everything he has done for us.
Bringing it to the N.T. Jesus did not seem to mind the praise either when he made his so called triumphant entry into Jerusalem riding on an ass.
Matthew 8:9,10

8.And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way.

9.And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.

I'm sorry CP the subject is prayer. That is what you were commenting on.
