It's a simple choice:

Either fall in love with yourself only and primarily, or fall in love with every good thing that exists (God has everything good in creation and much much more!) which includes loving yourself for the sake of God.
This is all the choice really is. Proofs of God will come to you and be known by you if you make the choice to love everything good that exists.

What if I love half the good things?

It's too simple. Life, emotions, and the world are all more complex than such reductionist thinking allows.

What does "
making the choice to love everything good that exists" entail? Just saying it? How do we demonstrate it? Are there certain actions that we can take? What form do the "Proofs of God" take, that we might recognize them when they come to us?
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

So it's either self love, or loving from an imaginary being. What's stopping me from finding a good woman to love men?
Edit: In the meantime, I'll stick to the self loving. Much more concrete than imaginary being.

What if I hate everything with the coruscating fury of a thousand quasars?

Just like a religious tyrant to tell everyone what their choices are, or else!

I choose to love nothing. What now?
Edit: Iroscato beat me to that one. Oh well. The challenge remains. Fuck your god concept.
