This Thread Has Been 'Locke'd for Introduction

RE: This Thread Has Been 'Locke'd for Introduction
Well I feel like stories of my friends still count as introduction.. But yes, I'll be posting various topics to cover questions that I personally needed answers to in order to become a Christian. Though my schedule is busy, I love writing, so I'll try to get on and keep up with it as I have opportunity.
Here are some of the topics I hope to write about, among others (Don't hold me to this list, it's just off the top of my head! =P):
- Pendulum Swings: Irrationally Rationalizing Desires
- Free Will vs. Predestination
- What is Faith?
- What does the Bible say about salvation?
- What is a Christian?
- Faith, Science and Reason
- Circular Reasoning and the Bible
- Of all the religions, why Christianity?
- Evidence for the Bible outside of itself
- Etc.

Actually, this is just the stuff I'm thinking of.. so I'm curious what you guys want to know about?

So much text... so little lee way in introductions....

So, if you're looking for the truth, start by forgetting about it.... instead, look for reality.
The world is what is real.
Truth is something a bit different... a personal interpretation of reality, of sorts... I don't like the truth.

I like reality. Science tries to describe reality, so, to the best of mankind's abilities, it is the best tool to ascertain what is real.
And no amount of scientific testing has yielded a god, yet. Until then, I refuse to accept that any god exists.

Do you accept evolution?
Do you believe in noah's arc?
Do you think atheists have morals?
Do you believe in hell (hot, torture place)?
How old do you think the earth is?

This will help us to place you. Please don't be a sock. So far you seem fairly nice.
Any spelling mistakes are due to my godlessness!

HMMMMMM? Thinking

Do please expand on this..... (perhaps in another section of these forums) since introductions would not be the best place to demonstrate your evidence.

Welcome

Definition of Truth: That which is true or in accordance with fact or reality.

I suspect your problem isn't so much with truth, but with people shoving their perceived truth down your throat..But we'll talk about that later in a more open thread =P

Do you accept evolution?
"Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly." (James 3:1)
Do I accept it? Mmm not necessarily. Do I have any problem with it at all? Nope, couldn't care less. Claiming to be a Christian and sitting here right now, citing Scriptures, I am holding myself up to a strict standard of judgment before God, because if I teach someone something that is not true, I am leading them further from God; I will be held responsible for that. As such, I want to be sure I don't teach or advocate anything I can't back up. Since I'm an ambassador for Christ, so to speak, I couldn't care less whether evolution is legit or not - either way, it doesn't answer the question of whether God is legit or not. Either the cosmos combusted and little weevils grew into people on their own, or God made the cosmos, which combusted and produced little weevils that grew into people.. you get my drift. The reason I wouldn't agree with it is because I'm trying to represent God, and if I support evolution and 20 years down the road science proves it wrong, then everything else I said is discredited over something I honestly just couldn't care less about lol

Do you believe in noah's arc?
Yeah, at this point I believe everything in the Bible, as long as it's taken into context, which is a necessary task, but also not nearly as difficult as most people would have you believe.

Do you think atheists have morals?
Do you think cats have fur? Some of them do.. most of them, from my experience. Some more than others.

Do you believe in hell (hot, torture place)?
Mmm actually still trying to sort that one out. I understand that preachers a few hundred years back may have turned that into more than the Bible makes it to scare people into church, but I haven't looked into it thoroughly yet. Granted, I'd like to think I'm not too worried about whether I end up there, so there have been more pressing things for me to study.

How old do you think the earth is?
Some Christians claim it is only about 6,000 years old.. tectonic plates, tree rings, and various other obvious scientific evidences tell us otherwise, so I claim they are victim to wishful thinking. At this point, it looks to me like the Bible is God's book of Words and Nature is His book of Works, until proven otherwise by more convincing proofs.

Oh damn. Now i'm confused.

Welcome, one Locke or the other. But, PLEASE don't build straw men. Atheists aren't necessarily atheists because they're angry at god (whatever that is) or because they want to live hedonistic lifestyles. Most of us get here through reason and logic.

Hi and hope you have fun here.

I've believed a troll and a sock on this forum previously, but for some reason, I don't think you're real. If you are I apologize, just a feeling.

I think a better question would be: Why bother to read a book you have no reason to believe?

The one I'd be interested in hearing is, Why you believe ther HAS to be a supernatural deity? I couldn't answer that question, the day I realised it I accepted that I was an atheist.
