Why is the pope such a big deal?

RE: Why is the pope such a big deal?
This pope no doubt has skeletons in his closet...probably of boys clutching their ankles. Until they surface, sheeple assume the pope is god's personal fluffer. The fear of a blue balled deity keeps them happy Franny hasn't a gag reflex.

That's my theory.

(August 10, 2013 at 6:01 pm)Science it works Wrote: I have wondered for a while why the pope is being worshipped in the way that he does, He is but a mortal man elected by fellow priests and holy men. What makes him so special? I know this is more like a question that a statement ( like alot of threads i have seen ) But i coulden't keep myself from asking.

I mean i would understand why he ment so much if he was elected by god himself in such a manner that not only catholic people (of course others aswell but trying to keep this simple)
would care. Like if a baby were born with a birthmark shaped like a cross or somthing. Or a man grew a angel halo. But that is not the case and i wonder why so much drama and news coverage?

I'm hoping someone can help me, and answer this question and feel free to be picky about my statements surrounding the pope and such if you felt somthing i said were completly wrong or somthing.

Thank you

Everything about the pope, and much about the Catholic church, is man-made religion and very much opposes Scripture (not to mention they tried to make their own version of the Bible).

See Matthew 15:1-9

No.. A few do, but most just take it horribly out of context. The toughest part today, since there are thousands of denominations, is not verifying the validity of the Word of God, but doing the work to study to find out whay it really says, as most churches don't really hold to it

EDIT: It's fairly difficult, very timr consuming

It gets more complicated when you start to factor in the Ethiopian, Coptic, Syriac, Greek Orthodox and Russian Orthodox traditions and then there all those oddball protestant sects.

The Pope is a big deal within the RCC by virtue of the doctrine of Pontifical Succession. From Matthew 16:18, the Church has decided that Peter was the first pope, and the authority of all subsequent popes derives therefrom.

When you think about it, it really isn't any sillier than any other theology, such as the 12th Imam or the authority of the Dalai Lama.

I don't need to go back and read the original Russian version of "Crime and Punishment" to realize that it is a work of fiction, and I don't need to read the original Hebrew and Greek texts of the Bible to see the same.

Matthew 16:18
"And I tell you that you are Peter,[a] and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades[b] will not overcome it."

Acts 2:14a, 41
"Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd... Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day."

1st Corinthians 1:10
"I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought... What I mean is this: One of you says, 'I follow Paul'; another, 'I follow Apollos'; another, 'I follow Cephas'; still another, 'I follow Christ.'
13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul?"

Ephesians 4:15
"Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ."

Christ is the head of the church. Any man who tries to usurp that is opposed to Christ.. so it's all human politics, they aren't serving God.

The Pope is more powerful than Jesus because the former is alive and can make decisions that actually affect the world, and the latter is a zombie that doesn't live on earth.

And a person is deluded for believing either of them.

And who has the authority to determine what it really says? Each individual? That's no good...instead of thousands of denominations, you'll have billions of interpretations. Who is right in that scenario...(lemme guess, you?) Being a good Christian, you better let everyone know the truth you found...too bad they are doing the same! Oh, the tribulations...

Maybe instead, a group effort? Nope, we have that...the current denominations! But lo!...some are using the scriptures out of context, and not following Jesus(as you see fit). Nope, another group effort isn't going to do squat...but add another name to tax exempt status rolls.

Pray on it?

ROFLOL

Nope. No answer there.

Back to the Bible. But no one can come up with a definitive, universally accepted version of what it really means! What to do, what to do...

I know.

Accept it's limitations, quit trying to claim your interpretation is a monopoly on truth, and insist others do the same. I'd prefer you just chalk it up as ancient myth, but I'm reasonable. Realize your personal relationship with a necromanced dogooder is just that: personal. Fuck it if every other professed Christian does the same...but with a different viewpoint. Just remember the book y'all base it on brought you to the point that none can fully agree, and that that says little for the religion overall. Accept it may just be irrational to believe, so best keep those beliefs private...out of schools surely, out of laws definitely.

And when you finally drop dead, remember...you lived as best you thought Jesus wanted. With a little luck, you'll be rewarded with eternal face time with him. Maybe 1 on 1, since the other sinners guessed wrong.

Bah. If Christianity wasn't wonky enough, the constant inter denominational bickering seals the deal. Too bad the babble wasn't written with clarity of intent. A united front would at least be encouraging. As it stands, it's pathetic.

Thus endeth my rambling, sayeth the bag of pooh.
