You know what's great about writing job applications?
Yeah, me neither...
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

I found out today that the CEO of our company has decided to cut some overhead, which resulted in my operations manager being laid off. So I will assume a number of other responsibilities, in addition to the ones I already have (basically doing two jobs for the price of one -- at least until the general manager and the CEO agree what to do about my compensation).
My former ops manager is a friend, so I'm unhappy on his account. Otherwise, not sure how to feel about this. Yes, it's a promotion of sorts. But the marginal time and recreational quality of life I enjoyed before today will be further compromised, as this job is a demanding bitch that requires regular M-F business hours plus boarding vessels at all hours and days of the week, depending on the ship schedules, and being on-call 24/7 all year except when I'm on vacation. Somehow, I doubt the increase in compensation will seem worth it in the end. But one does what one has to do.

Sadly indicative of the employer's market we live.

Exactly. I don't have any leverage, and I need the job. They know this.
