What's everyone up to right now?
RE: What's everyone up to right now?
On my way home from my first ever gay pride march Smile I did the whole march and it wasn't as bad as I feared; I wasn't as self-conscious as I feared... but at the same time I was in some ways; all I had was a rainbow badge and rainbows painted on my arms... whereas my friends went the whole hog with rainbow flags and capes. So basically my pride march was less energetic and cheery than the people around me... more solemn I guess... but nonetheless it was meaningful to me and an achievement to do it. Glad I did it as it was very liberating, and a lot of fun, and a very happy and positive atmosphere all round.

A charming young gentleman stopped by the apartment today to advocate for his candidate in this year's state elections. I don't normally vote in state elections, nor pay much attention to state politics, but I am aware that Republicans have not only been enjoying great success in having their views well represented at the national level, but that they have also likewise exerting dominance in many state assemblies. I suspect, in the absence of information specific, that such is not the case here, as Minnesota has and is a strongly blue state. Still, the possibility presents itself, and if I want to be part of any "blue wave" then it behooves me to do so at the state as well as the national level. So, I must at least investigate. The gentleman informs me that elections have already started. I don't know exactly what that means, but at minimum, it seems I am on the clock. Oh bother. I hate politics.

(ETA: There's an important Democratic primary coming up on August 14, so I guess the clock is ticking. That race is expected to be safely Democrat, but which Democrat is up for debate as the incumbent, Keith Ellison, is running for a different office this year.)

Planning out my social calendar regarding Meetup.com events and futzing around with Google calendar, which is integrated with the meetup notices. It's nice to have a free and polished calendar app, but as a web app, it's less than ideal, as I frequently have up to 200 tabs open at a time, and it can get easily buried in that mess. It would be nice if there were a desktop client for it. That seems to be a common problem. Perhaps I need a separate browser program for such apps.

Noticed that there is a Mensa meetup group. So I thought I'd take a gander at what it takes to get into Mensa. They offer testing, but they want $60 for it. Not sure it's worth it just to get into Mensa.

Unpacking. Would love to take a nap, but I have to get to the store for the perishables that we couldn't bring down with us.

Please do. And vote by person, not party.

Sorry, but I'm thoroughly disgusted by Republicans and conservatives so even in the absence of more specific information, I will cast my vote in favor of the party that best represents my overall interests generally. This is war and I'm not offering terms.

Finished my obligatory reading for the day. ("Huzzah!") And it's an hour until the Twins baseball game starts. What to do? What to do?

Watching more Xavier Renegade Angel than any sane person should...
My brain hurts
"Every luxury has a deep price. Every indulgence, a cosmic cost. Each fiber of pleasure you experience causes equivalent pain somewhere else. This is the first law of emodynamics [sic]. Joy can be neither created nor destroyed. The balance of happiness is constant.

Fact: Every time you eat a bite of cake, someone gets horsewhipped.

Facter: Every time two people kiss, an orphanage collapses.

Factest: Every time a baby is born, an innocent animal is severely mocked for its physical appearance. Don't be a pleasure hog. Your every smile is a dagger. Happiness is murder.

Vote "yes" on Proposition 1321. Think of some kids. Some kids."

"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

I fucking love that show! I got the entire series on DVD. To be absolutely fair, I'm not exactly the sanest person I know.
