Looks like it's overwhelmingly likely we're walking from the second house.

We walked. The seller's roofer refused to make it right and the other guy they had look at it said the new roof was good for 3-5 years. Seller was unwilling to do anything so they left us no choice.
Sorry to hear, Jack. I'm sure you'll find the right place. Don't get discouraged.
I'm waiting for my ride to the gym. It's raining, and to avoid paying for parking, we park away from the gym. Yay! ![]()
Trying to figure out why there are no stem summer camps within 25 miles of me and who I'd have to talk to or fundraise with to change that, lol. Daddy needs a fuckin break, lol!

Couldn't have come at a worse time - we were supposed to be in the first house by now, and tomorrow we leave for a much-needed week long vacation. Unless we get lucky and one of the 5 or 6 houses we plan on touring today meets our needs, this is going to likely stretch into July. We can't stay at my mom's that long. After the first fell through we decided to keep track of new places coming on the market so we have a number of properties to look at. Starting today. RE: What's everyone up to right now?

To celebrate A) my earning an A in my business ethics class, B) getting Barnes and Noble's 20% off Memorial Day coupon, and C) Barnes and Noble FINALLY allowing me to use it on the newly released Criterion Blu-Ray of Funny Games while it's still new and prices are still pretty low, well, I think you get the idea. Short story shorter, someone's got a close-to-half-price Blu-Ray of a pivotal work of an Austrian auteur coming in the mail... at least in a few days.

On a 737-800 to San Diego.

Fun fact: when I did my final paper for the Business Ethics Class, I covered the known facts of the 737 Max case, and how Boeing prioritised the boon to business a greener version of their classic 737 would give over a plane that actually worked properly. Thankfully, it looks like they're not going back in the air anytime soon. Also, I just got a copy of Salome in the mail. It's a new translation (by Joseph Donohue), and by Jah, Salome really needed one. The usual translation was essentially a joint effort between Wilde and his boyfriend, which is usually the sign of a definitive translation. However, Bosie's French was so bad he actually made several lines mean the exact opposite of what they really meant (one passage where Herod says one should look only in mirrors was reportedly translated as " ‘One must not look at mirrors’) that Wilde had to do extensive revisions. Unfortunately, due to what I think is because of the scandal the play would inevitably cause, the translation ended up being so antiquated, with dialogue so stilted, that it became borderline unreadable, particularly bizarre if you've got an edition with Aubrey Beardsley's illustrations, and especially jarring when you read it in collected editions of Wilde's plays (like I have), where you have comedies about upper-class men (who are most likely bisexual) trading exquisitely quotable barbs with each other, and in the midst of it all is this turgid-reading attempt at Greek Tragedy that's so difficult to get through, even if it is the shortest play of the bunch. Fortunately, Joseph Donohue managed to write a new translation that actually reads much smoother than the more common, older, translations do. I've only done a little looking, but from what I've seen, it looks a lot better than the other ones.
