Yay! TrueNAS fired up! I was looking at the wrong sub-menu in BIOS when I couldn't get it started earlier. I was looking at network polling order instead of disk polling order.

Finishing up the new NAS. Testing headless operation. Now I just need to clean up the area where it's going to live.
I'm out of cherry drink mix so I think I'll make a run to Walmart. ![]()
Woot! De Cecco spaghetti is on sale at Whole Foods for only $2.37 a box. I bought four boxes at $2.70 a box last month and regretted not buying more.

Been working on the wrought iron handrails for the ramp. It’s really all I can do at this point, since the timber won’t be here for at least another week. Fucking Aussies.

Putting the new NAS in its permanent home. And it booted up completely headless, woot! Zero troubleshooting required. I started this project 3 years ago, and it's finally complete!

Unboxing a new motherboard. I bought a RAM, CPU, and motherboard bundle at Micro Center. I needed the RAM, but the bundle was less than $100 more, so I basically got the CPU and motherboard for $100. It's a Ryzen 7 9700X which will be a slight bump from the Ryzen 5 9600X that I was going to use. The board is a white Gigabyte B650 board. I'm not a fan of Gigabyte, but an Asus bundle would have cost $100-200 more and the Asus board for $100 more wasn't as good as the Gigabyte board. The board is supposed to be white, but it's more silver than white. Not that I care. Once it's in its case and such, I won't even see it. The only truly visible part of the system will be the front case fans which I had been running as a solid blue color.

AI can be frustrating. The pins on my new motherboard's front panel header are in a non-standard arrangement. On the connector, one of the pins is blocked on the end and the other is not connected. On the motherboard, one of those two is a physical pin that potentially could conflict with the blocked pin on the connector. ChatGPT was telling me several different things and it finally settled on telling me that the blocked pin would conflict. After looking at the connector several times, I finally draggred the case over and checked by physically plugging the connector in. ChatGPT was totally off.
