My government has officially banned access to piratebay. The good news is that a 5 minute search on google showed me over 10 ways to access it again. I wonder why western governments are so idealistic with laws

yep... our government is bowing down to the copyright lobbies.
Somehow, these lobbies think that banning one address makes people use the service less...
Piratebay serves torrents: google for whatever you want and add torrent at the end... voilá, a bunch of sites giving you all the torrents you need for that thing.
Oh, and never mind those people who actually use torrents to distribute legitimate content, like most (if not all) linux distros, free-to-play games, other freeware, abandonware... those people don't have the cash to lobby against the copyrights guys... kind of makes you wonder who's losing with the deal... as always, follow the money.

I don't think it's idealism, I think it's a genuine lack of understanding as to how this technology works, coupled with a similar lack of interest as to whether or not the measures they're implementing turn out to be effective; just so long as the government is seen to be doing something about those dirty pirates- and let's not forget that the people who will approve of such measures also don't understand that they'll be ineffective- plus, it means they get to play up to their corporate masters in the entertainment industry.

By idealism I meant that they may actually believe this measure will stop people from accessing piratebay but it won't, there's dozens of alternative links being provided not to mention other torrent websites.
