Gun control

RE: Gun control
I have never understood why anyone would want or need a gun in the house for any reason. I have managed to survive 59 years without ever having touched a gun, it is only in the last 10 years or so that I even SAW a real gun (held by police at the local airport)

Protip: If you use 'they' or 'them' instead of he/she him/her, even when talking about a single person, everyone will know what you're saying and it's gender neutral.

Well, I did not have a need for a gun either. Though I'd like to have one. Not just for self-protection, I think its a good thing for every citizen of a nation to know how to operate a firearm.

True, never came to my mind. Probably due to them usually referring to a multiple of people, and the "he/she/it" being a singular, gender neutral pronoun in Turkish. Thanks for pointing out.

No problem - the only time you may come into problems with using 'they' is in a school english essay, but since we're not writing essays here it is fine (and you could even convince a professor/teacher not to give a shit at least here in MERICA).

RE: Gun control
I have been a responsible gun owner for
over 25 years. The judgmental over-
generalizations being made by some
members of this forum are shocking to me.
I was under the impression that we were not
all sheep lead to follow the current. I do
hope that some who have made such
ugly comments would respectfully re-consider
their fellow-man, and offer him respect. I make
no judgments against those who disagree
with gun ownership - but I do find those here
who made blind judgments guilty of shameful
behavior. My two infant children (now adults)
were raised with guns in our home. My adult
children respect, can handle, and understand
firearms very well. One is an owner, one is not.
Call a fool a fool for being irresponsible. Do not
call a responsible man a fool for the actions of
others.

BTW. For me, "Gun Control" means nice, tight groups.

Let's respect one another please.

RE: Gun control
I don't really understand gun nuts (not all gun owners, of course), much less the NRA. The NRA is clearly in the pockets of gun manufacturers (just look at the top guys in the organization), hence their insane responses to national tragedies: "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun!" Which naturally means we need more guns.

....W.T.F?

The real need for reasonable gun control legislation is to lessen the ability for criminal usage of firearrms and to prevent the constant mass shootings. You're not going to be able to kill half a dozen or more people very easily with a knife, as you could with firearms.

...Or an S.U.V. driven into a crowd! Let's have S.U.V. control too.
It's NOT the weapon - it's the fool with the weapon who needs to
be controlled. Take the gun rights from responsible owners and the
only ones with guns are the thugs and the cops (same IMO). The
intruder who entered my home 13 years ago lost his left arm to a
well placed .45 acp round. He entered my home while my wife, my
young son, and I were all sleeping. He had a knife, mace, duct tape
and bad intentions. I'm glad I had my 1911.

Quote:Lucas’s father, Joshua Heagren, had tried to teach the 3-year-old to respect firearms. The boy had gotten a .22 rifle for Christmas, and his father showed him how to fire it. But he also warned him to handle it only when an adult was present.

WTF??? The kid was only 3 YEARS OLD! I believe that my 3-year-old son is pretty responsible for his age, but no way in fucking hell am I giving him a .22 rifle to play with, even if only doing it when I'm present. I don't even trust him with a hook on his fishing pole yet.

Rubbish!
an SUV is designed as a vehicle, if misused it can cause death or injury.
A gun is designed to kill people... that's it's job.
Why would any sane person want something in his house designed to kill?
I just don't understand the thinking behind it.
There are more injuries in the USA in a day due to guns than in a year in the UK where it is difficult for a member of the public to legally obtain a gun

Check the stats. Those "injuries" include
MOSTLY gang violence perpetrated against
another gang - or it's crime related. Those
"injuries" also include cops shooting people.
I agree that an S.U.V was designed as a
vehicle, and a gun as a weapon. Both are
TOOLS, used for respective purposes. Like
the true personal example I posted where I
used my .45 as a TOOL to save the lives of
my family and myself. I'll make all the gun
fearing people a deal; I won't use my gun
illegally, you don't tell me I'm wrong to own
one. Deal?

Because we live in a fucked up world where
crazy bastards will kill with whatever they can
get their hands on - and I need defense from that.
