This opening paragraph of the article in question I think completely undersells the accomplishment of Diana Nyad. She didn't just swim from Cuba to Florida. She did so, unaided, at the age of 64. Now that is truly remarkable.
I'm sure that at some level Oprah thinks she couldn't have made it without a little help from her sky-daddy. I guess the first four times he tried to drown her and then decided oh, what-the-fuck!
Right, and I am sure the Koch brothers who are "fuck you I got mine" believers think that an invisible friend favored them as well.
I think the crap she supports like Dr Phil and Dumb Dumb Crapra are more along the misguided sense of "Cant we all just get along".
I don't reject all people, believer or not, who get rich merely because they hold beliefs I find absurd. I think well intended people can want the best for humanity but also falsely put "cant we all just get along" before pragmatic fact finding.
Oprah is smart, but her weight and wealth is geared toward empathy. I would vote for her before I would vote for Bill Gates. I do however think both live in a bubble as far as how much the pay gap has hurt us.
