It really is surprising that none of the theists here have responded to this... Bumped and waiting for counterpoints

Where sometimes is heard a discouraging word

I know what you mean. I have yet to receive a responce for my question, "What is the purpose of god"?
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan
Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.
Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.
You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

Well... you ask a question that cannot be answered...
After all... how can nothing have a purpose?

Ah, but it can be answered. The problem isn't answering the question, the problem is answering it correctly. It's a very tough question for the answer that one may bring to it, they could find themselves in trouble should they give a certain answer to the question at hand. There is no good answer from the theist's perspective, which is why they wisely avoid it. Doesn't mean I won't pressure them to answer it though.

What is the purpose of God? My answer to this question is simple, nothing. The only purpose a belief in god has in this world is to create a crutch for the deluded who are too lazy to try and seek more practical answers to the mysteries of this world and our origins. The biblical god is like a universal remote to answer all the questions that we have yet to answer scientifically.

A good answer. Mine is simler.
The purpose of god does not exist in god himself but us. God was created by us to answer questions that we didn't know the answer of and was for us then and now beyond us that we currently don't know of that is currently beyond us at the time and now. God was and still is used to fill in missing information. Though we should of grown out of it by now, we still have our childhood buggy.
That is the purpose of god. It is used to answer questions that we currently have no answer for.
Anyone can answer any question with anything...however its how we answer it that counts. Goddidit is one perfect example of a quick and easy answer for something we do not know. There are no garantees of being correct. It's in a sense a shot in the dark. A blind assertion. Unconfirmable, unprovable by all known means and so there exists every reason to reject and dismiss claims of some supernatural non-temporal god. The purpose of god is to offer comfort and to provide answers to questions. That is the purpose of god.

Quote:Jesus biggest prophecy failed miserably and it still amazes me how people are waiting for him to return 2000 plus years later. I guess that hope is eternal no matter how ridiculous that hope is.
It is an eschatological sect which means...by definition, that it must have an "end-times" scenario otherwise it is rather fucking pointless, CP.
What is amusing is the number of people who just SWEAR that the end is near and then...when it doesn't happen...simply re-calculate. Over the last 1,500 years almost every generation has its own anti-christ.
You'd think the idiots would catch on but xtians are fairly low on the intellectual totem pole.

Lmao minimalist ! But so true. It's funny that their own bible states clearly:
Matthew 25:13
Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
Mark 13:32
But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
Yet they keep trying to predict the return of the Lord. Jesus allegedly made the above statements and then turned around and contradicted himself.
Matthew 16:28
Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.
I am sure that some apologist will state that he was referring to the transfiguration.
But then he said:
Matthew 24:34
Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
The verses that precede this one refer to the return of the Lord so that pretty much throws a monkey wrench into this apologetic defense. Yet another problem with the gospels just one of many my friends.
