This is just a natural extention of the bullshit that has been flying since the the great schism, possibly longer. Just that as they have begun to accept each other more, they started hating on Jews, Muslims and atheists more prominently. This thing with this soup kitchen is just as dumb as a bunch of Pentecostals turning down catholics, and the same thing.

And neither do I care if charity groups wanting to maintain their own identity.
A church charity is entitled to do its OWN work as part of THEIR religious fellowship activity, free from atheist gate-crashers.
How about if I gate crash a women-only domestic violence support group? Or how about if I go to volunteer at an abortion advocacy service?
Should my religion or my gender matter if I am there to help?
First in your first example your comparing apples to oranges, but guess what, must will let you volunteer in way that isn't near the abuse vitims that are recovering from a often paralyzing fear of men.
And as far as my knowledge no abortion clinic/agency has turned down any one because of their beliefs ever.
