As atheists, we are a minority in this area, and the greater portion of the population still sees us as the misanthropic caricature commonly portrayed in pop culture. We’re changing that. As we work for awareness and acceptance, we’re also fighting the perception that this is a Christian nation and all that entails..

There isn't anything about a primary goal of helping as many people as possible. Quite the opposite, seems like they just want to help the atheist "image" and proselytize against Christianity.

Your turn. Undecided

Regardless of the groups goals, the end result would have been feeding people that needed it, but the church chose religious politics over the welfare of the people. I wonder when Jesus said to do that.

Your turn. Jerkoff

No, the atheists choose politics. Just because some asshat atheists didn't get to proselylitize does not mean people weren't fed.

Try again.

The atheists were okay working with an organization whose main focus is to sell the Jesus scam, even though they were in opposition to that scam. If the atheist organization cared more about eradicating Christianity, they would have made the break.

Your turn.

Catfish, here's the thing, though: these guys aren't a charitable organization. They're an atheist organization, designed to be a safe place for atheists, and to improve the image of atheists. Just like any other minority group, their concern is outreach and... you know, factual accuracy where the cultural image of their group is concerned.

You might have had a point if this was specifically a charitable organization and they had that on their faq, because then there really would be a conflict between their stated purpose and their actual goals. But these guys aren't a charity, they're an atheist group. There's no conflict here, no dishonesty; they do the charity work because they want to, because it helps. You can't reach into their heads and determine their motives, so stop being dishonest.

Oh, and just by the way: fighting against the inaccurate idea that America is a christian nation is not the same as proselytizing against christianity, so quit with the histrionics, okay?

I can't tell if you're trolling me, or if you're just really fucking retarded. Your post history doesn't really indicate which would be more likely...

More man power equals more people fed, but the church chose against that based on nothing more than they didn't like the fact that the people wanting to help were atheists. Even if we were to grant that the atheists were doing it solely for publicity and the church knew that, they still chose that fact over feeding people.

Catfish would rather reinterpret the motivations of people he's never even met, than debate the topic at hand.

And see, I knew this would happen, because it's the exact same argument that was used the last time this happened: if you can't excuse the behavior of your own side, the christian response seems to just get aggressive and try to smear everyone else, as though dragging others down to their level excuses the behavior of their own side.

Catty, do you get off being an argumentative asshole? This isn't one of your better stands. This church, and now you, have chosen a shit position.

"Activism serves many purposes, including bringing people in our community together for polite, respectful discussion; destigmatizing the word “atheist” simply by being open “out” atheists; dispelling common misconceptions about what atheists do and do not believe by making ourselves available to the public to answer questions about atheism; increasing awareness among religious believers that atheists are present in the Kansas City community; increasing awareness to among nonbelievers in Kansas City that our organization exists and that we provide a community to nonbelievers; allowing us to show public, visible and vocal support for organizations and causes we believe in and show public, visible and vocal disparagement for organizations and causes we find harmful."

They're asshats, plain and simple. (and crybabies)

I didn't need to. Who cares what the atheist organization's goals were? The Christians told the atheists to fuck off.
