Muslims in Britain do not stone women to death. And if they did, they would get arrested. That is progress. Shame we can't say the same for islamic countries. And when you say 'atheist civilization' I think you mean secular. In that case, secular societies have done a great service to civilization. Without them, christianity would be very similar to Islam today. Women and unruly children would get stoned to death in the street. You would get murdered for working on the sabbath. You can thank secular governments for dragging christianity into the 21st century.

First, i strongly doubt a British general said anything in the 700's. I'm sure you mean in the 1700's, right?

Secondly, The statement that Shia and Sunni kill each other is not negated by who is killed amongst the groups.

Lastly, "atheist civilization" is simply everything that is not religion. In that case it produced all of the advances in civilization.
Atheists have been strongly censored in the past so we don't even know who was or wasn't an atheist. Very many of our famous leaders in science have been staunch atheists, so your logic fails there badly too.

There is a great deal of truth to scientific attainments under the Abbasid's in Iraq for example. Baghdad was a jewel at one time. Of course, it was a jewel in a necklace of commerce which stretched from the Tang Empire in China through the various Indian kingdoms and on to Byzantium. Meanwhile, the xtians in the West were merrily slaughtering each other or the Vikings but fortunately they did get their act together in time to kick the shit out of the muslims at Tours....one of the most important battles in history.
