I'm sorry to be frank Rahul, but that is idiotic. What are you afraid of, that someone can rob you by gunpoint? Well, tighter gun control makes it harder for people to use guns on you. See the problem here? Instead of giving every kook the right to carry arms, why not learn something useful like Krav Maga, if/when you have to defend yourself?
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

Presumably, you also make sure you always have a bulletproof vest, an NBC suit, a syringe of atropine, a first aid kit, full complement of tools, etc....
I mean, it's better to have them and not need them, right?
What? No subterranean bunker with 20+ years of MRE's and proximity sensors and claymore mines? Some good that box o' band-aids will be...

How do you mean?
Look...we all have opinions, it's just as a non-Texan, mine's valid.
Situation dependent, calling the cops is like calling a fire mission, danger close. They are often all too willing to hurl bullets. Fucking cowboys.

I disagree with your opinion that it is idiotic.
Please explain your proposed plan to remove all guns from the United States of America and we can discuss the probability of success.
While you're at it why don't you also propose a plan to keep out all the drugs and illegal immigrants that flood into our country as well despite all our attempts to stop it.
Good luck.

Well of course. I also have a several month supply of MREs.

Yeah, well there is that. Better and more frequent training might help.

It appears you still haven't realized this, so let me spell it out as simply as I can: criminal don't obey gun laws. If you ban guns, the only people you'll be disarming are innocent people. Krav Maga (or any other martial arts for that matter) will be completely useless against someone with a gun.

Here's my problem with a gun in the house:
My niece and nephew stay with us a lot of the time. I have a lot of respect for their curiosity and ingenuity, so there's no question that any guns would have to be locked up in a safe at all times. If someone broke into my home, would I have time to get the gun? If I have time to get the gun, I have time to run away, and I'd rather run away if I can. Nothing in my house is worth facing a possibly dangerous, possibly armed individual who has broken in, even if I'm armed, too. It just seems like guns in safes aren't very useful for home defense.

Just because they aren't useful for you doesn't mean they aren't useful for anyone else. Besides, why can't you tell your niece and nephew that a gun is not a toy and that it shouldn't be played with?

Take them to a gun range and shoot the gun in front of them. It scares the shit out of little kids and they avoid them like the plague.
I grew up in a house full of unsecured guns. Amazingly my brother and I somehow survived. </sarcasm>

Just because you and your brother, hell, lots of kids, didn't shoot yourselves doesn't mean unsecured guns aren't a valid concern. I've seen a couple news blurbs this month with toddler involved shootings. I doubt they were safe crackers.

Anyone that would put a loaded gun in a location a toddler could grab it shouldn't be allowed to own a gun.
Heck even laying an unloaded pistol in front of a toddler with a box of ammo next to it wouldn't end in a toddler shooting itself.
