No, it is the current population of Americans that honor an evolved constitution that protects us. The Founders are dead as nails and protect no one. The constitution is only as powerful as the ruling class want it to be, and in the case of Guantanamo and rendition, it is ignored as it becomes inconvenient.

- True. Things have gotten more secular, but some people will stick to the god they have no evidence for and endorsed truly nightmarish things they'll deny until the day they die. It matters more than ever, because letting our rational, secular society fall into the laps of ill-informed or indoctrinated people will mean a lack of logic in the way we carry the nation forward. So yea, it means sh%t.

And they forget that during civil war era slavery, there was plenty of food even for slaves, but during biblical slavery, slaves were always starving and more often than not met their demise because of malnourishment. So the biblical slavery was worse, not better than American slavery.

It doesn't really matter what condition one group was in, compared to another group. You shouldn't think owning another human being is acceptable. The very fact that you need to use people of different races to justify it shows people thought it was wrong to treat their own like that. They were hypocrites. Hypocrisy is about one of the most common flaws a person can have, though.

I was replying to the common christian apologia that biblical slaver wasn't bad like American slavery. I certainly didn't espouse the point.
