I spent almost ten hours yesterday doing charity work when I could have been having Sunday Funday with my friends.

Four times a month, I stay up all night to be ready to go to the forensic hospital 30 minutes away so I can be there in case someone gets raped. Last time, it was a homeless girl, and since I can't let the cops take her back to where she was raped (the 7-11 parking lot), I had to arrange a bed for her at a shelter where I also volunteer.

I do work for the homeless all the time, and I'm currently setting it up so no one gets me Christmas presents this year and in the future, and instead they'll provide me with sweaters, blankets, toiletries, backpacks, etc. so I can keep those things in my car in case I run into a homeless person who needs them (which I do often).

This is all while I'm currently completely broke (I literally have $2.16 to my name) and jobless.

So, yeah, Huggy and GC, tell me again how little atheists do for charity. I even do it all without throwing a book at anyone!

I have and still do commend you on the work you do, I wasn't pointing a finger at you. My reply was to another. Most of the atheist here do drugs and drink heavily, by their own bragging, so I'm sure they haven't the time, money or care it takes to do what you do, I know their situation, I use to live it.

What exactly have you guys done for the poor?

I volunteered for a year at a food bank in Ventura called Project Understanding. We collected and distributed food to poor folk. We didn't ask for a statement of faith or church attendance. We asked for a name and number of folks in the family.

I did one hell of a lot more than your empty prayers. Clearly I cared more about those folk than your limp noodle of a god.

Your posting of such tripe could effect someone visiting here and if they ever needed help might just reject the help that would come to them through love and compassion, wouldn't that be wonderful, all because of your post.

    My oh my! You are just burning with self-righteousness, aren't you? Relax, lady. You need to be able to take it, if you're going to dish it out like this. You made sweeping generalizations about people who don't happen to subscribe to your beliefs on this forum. That was reprehensible. Many secular individuals and organizations devote both time and money to charity--without subjecting those in need to a sales pitch for religious ideology.
     And by the way, if anyone came visiting here looking for charitable aid and rejected help (as if this scenario makes any damn sense), it would be your hateful, lunatic rage that sends them away.

Free speech has always had restrictions of some sort.  Why should free speech be allowed to violate seperation of church and state? Yeah, a stupid cross on public land isn't much of a big deal in and of itself, but there is the equivalent of "mission creep" involved.  Where does it actually stop?  The government should not be seen as endorsing or promoting any particular relgiion. And the same people who will complain about the cross beng taken down will complain about a giant Islamic symbol being erected on the same hill.
Am I such an activist that I was particularly concerned about the goofy cross? Not really......but I understand the underlying principal.
