Why Should Someone Be an Atheist?
RE: Why Should Someone Be an Atheist?
The earliest source of Lovecraft's writings would be H. P. Lovecraft (1890-1937) and his existence and the publication of his writings is established and not in dispute. He has direct eyewitness accounts and we have no reason to disbelieve them. We do not have the earliest sources for any Biblical text, just copies of copies of copies and many of those have differences among the text that make it difficult to figure out what the real message was. Lovecraft's work is pristine and cannot possibly be errant.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

The earliest still preserved papyri are from the late first century and second century. No ancient still remaining text is as close to the events as is the case for the Bible.

So the Bible was written around the second century?

No. It was written right after the events, but the earliest still surviving papyri are from the late 1st and 2nd centuries which is unprecedented.

Then we don't have the earliest sources.

We don't have the earliest sources for anything in antiquity which is to be expected.

I would've expected a bit better from god. He could've printed his Bible on tougher paper.

Um, aside from what Tonus has already said, it appears you're glossing over the Old Testament. Say, when are the earliest copies from, and when is it claimed the events occurred?

Superstition - a widely held but unjustified belief in supernatural causation leading to certain consequences of an action or event, or a practice based on such a belief.

Yahweh's 'cure' for leprosy -

Get two birds. Kill one. Dip the live bird in the blood of the dead one. Sprinkle the blood on the leper seven times, and then let the blood-soaked bird fly off. Next find a lamb and kill it. Wipe some of its blood on the patient's right ear, thumb, and big toe. Sprinkle seven times with oil and wipe some of the oil on his right ear, thumb and big toe. Repeat. Finally kill a couple doves and offer one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering.

Please let me know which part of the above does not fit the definition of superstition.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

FALSE.

As has been repeatedly explained to you, the bible is a claim, NOT evidence.

My finger is hovering around the report button. Acknowledge this point at least once otherwise I'll be clicking the button.

I've been more than fair to you, as have other posters on here. Your unwillingness to engage in the vast majority of replies to you reveals to us that you are being disingenuous and are thus not worthy of our time.
