That's about it. Atheism isn't about believing; it's about NOT believing.

Or not what i would consider evidence. Also the amount of gods over human history help too.
Atheism is not the assertion of the non-existence of God, it is a position of the rejection of a single issue which is Gods existence.
We don't say "We believe there are no Gods"
We say "We don't believe in your claim that a God exists."
You cannot prove a negative. I can't give evidence of the non-existence of God the same way you cannot give me evidence of the non-existence of a pink unicorn.

I think Christians understand our position extremely well but they chiose to ignore reality so they create strawmen to attack us. They insist that We have a positive beleif in there being no god because it suits their agenda. They knows its bullshit.
Similarly the Nonsense about us 'just hating God'.
Dear Christians. Do you think that someone who is atheist because they no longer follow their parents taosim just hates God?

Ah-haaa, we may have a Christian member I might like; he actually gets it without requiring the use of a concrete-breaker to get it into his brain.
I see good things!
But yes, that's the gist of it. We don't so much believe atheism is true as much as we simply do not believe. "I don't believe this" comes before "I believe I know not believing in this is true." The latter isn't often necessary except amongst "strong atheists" like myself; I answered the question in that context instead. I, personally, believe atheism is the correct position largely because I have seen no loss in my quality of life since ceasing to be a Christian, and have instead seen a prominent rise in my range of intellect, fueled by a new-found curiosity for everything I did not have before on this scale in regards to all forms of knowledge. Meanwhile, the only evidence I have from others of the gods they claim exist is, at BEST, claims of first-hand experiences similar to ones that I have experienced myself without any kind of feelings of divine presence. More common instead are the claims that came from people making claims that came from people making claims...
Lots of hearsay, lots of claims, and not a damn thing to show for it. My reaction is an intellectual one and also an emotional one; I hold to my stance that, to the best of my knowledge, there is/are no god(s). To claim that I think god exists would mean to shoulder the burden of proof; I could not do that.

To OP:
I feel more like atheism is a matter of being morally honest with yourself: you have to accept that any unsupported belief is not something you can trust. It's a matter of being able to stand on your own legs knowing that all claims about god are futile; it's a matter of being able to give yourself rules to live in harmony with the rest of humanity.
To Nineteen:
Nice strawman you did there
"Every luxury has a deep price. Every indulgence, a cosmic cost. Each fiber of pleasure you experience causes equivalent pain somewhere else. This is the first law of emodynamics [sic]. Joy can be neither created nor destroyed. The balance of happiness is constant.
Fact: Every time you eat a bite of cake, someone gets horsewhipped.
Facter: Every time two people kiss, an orphanage collapses.
Factest: Every time a baby is born, an innocent animal is severely mocked for its physical appearance. Don't be a pleasure hog. Your every smile is a dagger. Happiness is murder.
Vote "yes" on Proposition 1321. Think of some kids. Some kids."

Your first sentence proves that you don't understand.
As an atheist, I believe in plenty of things. I just happen to base what I believe on demonstrable evidence, reasoned argument and valid and sound logic.
You question doesn't apply because it is malformed.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

Nature is robust enough to withstand all criticisms.
It has proven the test of time.
We are apart of it and a result of it ...that part is universally undisputable.
Or we can pretend it doesn't exist and look at other theories.
(Or hypothesis)
Nature doesn't require us to have faith, just common sense, which apparently isn't that common.
People keep saying that comments like these are "arrogant"...
If 3 or more atheists think this is so, I'll be more diplomatic in future...

Yes, another crazy thread...
Nothing more frustrating than listening to anyone who doesn't understand.
Is there at way we can explain logic to someone who hasn't grasped it..... Not that easy.
How can you argue with someone who says:
You are an atheist because you hate god!
I don't know whether to laugh or cry?
No God, No fear.
