We know he is just because he gives us a chance for eternal happiness even when we donot desirve it. He is merciful even when ppl kill his followers and is pateint until the day of death for salvation. He punishes evil just as you would punish a bad child by separation from joy. A child sent to their room to think about their evil doings is synonymous with hell.

Yeah they were purposely insulting The Lord's earthly representative. Atheist seem to forget this fact. God was patient with the apostates and they mocked God. I know also that since they were children it was better for them to die in this manner than to suffer in the filth of sin and burn in hellfire after they die as adults.

Bloodthirsty? I don't know the mind of God, but when Adam sinned, and we also sin, the penalty of that sin is death. Before Adam sinned he wasn't subject to death. An offense against God is more serious than a sin against a person. That's why Jesus' sacrifice was so significant. He made the ultimate sacrifice for everyone who has or will live. He didn't have to. It was his choice.
