We had to have our first child in hospital.. but it was much longer than it needed to be due to the uncaring drone mindless factory workers nurses. In the end we signed a piece of paper to be able to go home and bring our child to health away from their barbaric and dictatorial regime. Mother and child made a very quick and perfect recovery.
Our second child was born at home with only a midwife present at the end. It was a relaxed and happy experience.
Giving birth is not an illness. Hospitals are meat factories.

The desire for privacy doesn't have to be about shame. Maybe you don't want someone perving over you, maybe you want others to focus on something else besides your nakedness. As as been said, we follow social norm. We also want to keep warm.
A woman can feel assured that another woman would never be a danger in that they may abuse her because their natural instincts. In some situations people need to feel safe. Whatever _my_ feelings, I respect that wish in others.
