I was giving the general explanation for ascetic practice and why people do it and what the advantage of it is. If I explain what fasting is about I'm not saying you have to do it but what the advantage of doing it is within the spiritual context.

Actually, the Bible DOES ban masturbation, and in no uncertain terms:

From Paul's epistle to the Peloponnesians, chapter 4, verses 8-13:
