It is right, unless you want to say the universe exists for no reason and by chance it's as complex and finely tuned for life as it is by pure blind chance. You may as well say a bomb in a junkyard can create a fully functional Boeing 747 by blind luck, if you set off enough bombs.

Sorry if this idea has been mooted before, but ...

It occurred to me the other day that, if one accepts the notion of God as omniscient, omnipotent and ineffably wise, isn't the whole notion of prayer inherently blasphemous?

If God is omniscient, then whatever issue you're trying to draw his attention to, he already KNOWS about. As such, if he is refusing to intercede, he must have his reasons, being ineffably wise.

As such, to pray for intercession, whether on your own behalf or anyone else's, is either to deny God's omniscience (by drawing his attention to something you seem to think he's somehow missed) or to question his judgment (by challenging his decision not to intercede, or, if he has ALREADY interceded, by pointing out that he has, in your opinion, interceded incorrectly).

You're questioning his competence, in any event, by essentially telling him how to do his job...

Actually - if anyone actually reads the bible - there are LOTS of things that are NOT TRUE about religion - and NO one theist obeys all of the laws of the bible


Example - In the bible -the christ myth is quoted as saying - give to Caesar what is Caesars - give to god what is god - when specifically talking about money.

YET - the people who perpetrate this fraud are always looking for money in the name of god - when the bible specifically says not to give them money - give them prayer (Which does not do anything of course)

There's plenty of evidence just no scientific proof, you can't have scientific proof of something that exists beyond the physical universe as perceived by the senses that science can study. Where is your evidence anyway? You must have something other than your opinion to support your counterclaim with?

Atheist: "Show me that me the evidence that God exists!"

Theist: *presents the evidence*

Atheist: "That's not evidence because God doesn't actually exist!"

Theist: "What makes you say that?"

Atheist: "It's my opinion and my opinion is true and you must agree with my opinion!"

Atheist: "It's not based on anything it's reality, the way I see it! therefore it is true!"

You can read the atheist in the voice of "Rod Hull" that's what it sounds like to most people, it's a little bit bonkers.

Theist: I have evidence that God exists!

Atheist: Go on then.

Theist: Ta daaa!

Atheist: Erm... That's not evidence.

Theist: Well of COURSE it's not evidence! You can't prove God exists with EVIDENCE, you shallow narrow-minded fool...

Not a pointless question at all ... you made a claim (that there exist a disembodied intelligence) and I asked you if you had ever seen this ... for as far as I'm concerned intelligence cannot exist without a brain unless there is some kind of proof.

When I was a Christian, I raised that issue to a Christian buddy of mine. He said something like "God wants us to pray because it shows our faith." I guess that makes sense.

Also, Jesus prayed in the Bible.
