I like this part.
God
Go work up a "Number 6" on 'em!
David
"Number 6"? I'm afraid I'm not familiar with that one...
God
Well, that's where you go a-ridin' into town, a whampin' and whompin' every livin' thing that moves within an inch of its life. Except the women folks, of course.
David
You spare the women?
God
Naw--You rape the shit out of them at the Number 6 Dance later on!
David
Marvelous!

Job is interesting because it's reputed to be one of the oldest stories in the bible, on a par with the material from Genesis. And it shows; in surrounding books the theology is well developed and fairly nuanced. Job is pretty raw as far as theology goes.

Are you sure you got the right number?
Sounds more like Number 31 to me.

I'm another fan of Ecclesiastes. I find it more insightful than world weary. The preacher is pretty much agreeing that there isn't anything of absolute value in pleasures or achievements. He says that you should just live your life and enjoy your job and friends. In the long run, we're all dead anyway.
I agree.
So how, exactly, does God know that She's NOT a brain in a vat?

I like the more secular books, Ecclesiastes, Sirach, Susanna, Bel and the Dragon, Proverbs, and the Maccabees, especially 2 Maccabees chapter 7. The book of Job is a good story of how to deal with disasters.
