Remember how Rep. Paul Ryan was so sad about the poor boy who didn't want that nasty free government school lunch, "because he knew a kid with [lunch in] a brown paper bag had someone who cared for him"? Ryan had been told that story by Eloise Anderson, a member of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's cabinet, who supposedly "once met" this boy, who directly from his own mouth told her that story.

Yeah, about that.

It turns out, that touching story is actually from a book about a kid in New York City in the 1980s, and the lunches he was getting for free were not from the government, they were from an ad sales rep who befriended him.

Nonetheless, I'm sure the audience ate it up. They know that poor kids hate to eat! It's like they are ashamed to be taking money out of the top 1%'s pockets.

A New Hampshire Republican with a habit of making offensive Facebook posts is back in the news for another offensive Facebook post.

State Rep. Kyle Tasker (R-Nottingham) posted an image Monday on his public Facebook page that showed two figures engaged in oral sex with the caption, “50,000 battered women and I still eat my plain.”

In a post on his Facebook page that was—in theory, anyway—about federal spending, Jim Brown, who’s running in Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District, compared modern-day “entitlements” to slavery. But even more disturbing, perhaps, he denied that slavery was, first and foremost, a brutally violent institution:

Back in the day of slavery, slaves were kept in slavery by denying them education and opportunity while providing them with their basic needs .. Not by beating them and starving them. (Although there were isolated cases if course) Basically slave owners took pretty good care of their slaves and livestock and this kept business rolling along.

A newly apportioned state Republican representative in Wyoming is standing by claims he made at the height of the AIDS panic in a book entitled The Death Sentence of AIDS: Vital Information For You and Your Family’s Health and Safety.

Among the more outlandish claims in the book, which was self-published by Rep. Troy Mader (R-Gillette) in 1984, are that “[h]omosexuals…purposely infected women to pass AIDS infection into the straight population,” and that “[m]any homosexuals demand the right to have sexual acts with children of any age, including infants.”
