Wisconsin state Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald ® — whose brother works as a lobbyist — last week blocked a bill that would have required health plans to cover chemotherapy drugs equally.

Last year, lawmakers in Wisconsin moved to join 29 other states and pass the Cancer Treatment Fairness Act, which would treat chemotherapy pills taken orally the same as intravenous medications.

In a Sunday editorial, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel noted that the connection between Fitzgerald and his brother’s insurance lobbying “looks suspicious and smacks of special interest politics.”

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel needs to stop pussy-footing around and call it what it is. Corruption.

South Dakota GOP lawmaker: KKK business owners deserve right to ban blacks and gays

South Dakota state Sen. Phil Jensen ® believes that a recently-killed bill that would have let companies discriminate against LGBT people should have also let businesses owners in the Ku Klux Klan refuse service to African-Americans.

Last week, the State Senate Judiciary voted, five to two, to kill Jensen’s SB 128, which went even beyond Arizona’s failed discrimination bill by explicitly saying that businesses could discriminate based on “sexual orientation.”

“As a follower of Jesus Christ, I’m commanded to love, to love everyone. That doesn’t mean I must condone the lifestyle choices that someone chooses,” Jensen explained to South Dakota Public Radio. “The GLBT movement doesn’t just want societies approval. They want their lifestyle choices applauded; they want standing ovations.”

Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Tuesday explained to a group of children that atheists in the United States were working to take away their religious freedoms.

Speaking at the Network of Iowa Christian Home Educators, Cruz told parents and children as young as 3 that “school choice is the civil rights issue of the 21st century.”

Cruz repeated a conspiracy theory that the Convention on the Rights of the Child would allow the United Nations to take parenting decisions away from Americans.

“Nothing in international law, nothing in any treaty should be used as a backdoor vehicle to undermine the rights of every parent here to raise your children consistent with your faith, with your good judgement and the love you have for your children,” he said.

Billionaire leaves Gov. Rick Scott's re-election campaign after racist incident

Tensions between Scott’s campaign staff and Fernandez had been building for weeks. And the last straw, according to people within the campaign who spoke with the Miami Herald this weekend, was an incident in which several of Scott’s campaign staffers allegedly began joking around in a cartoonish, over-the-top Mexican accent while on the way to a Mexican restaurant.

Fernandez, who is Cuban, reportedly shot off an angry email to campaign leadership after word of the incident leaked out.

So it's a case where the Republican efforts to be nice to billionaires ran into conflict with the Republican base instinct to insult minorities. And what we've learned here, kids, is that racism wins over having One Billion Goddamn Dollars any day of the week.

The House voted today to undo what they can of President Teddy Roosevelt's legacy. They voted to pass the "Ensuring Public Involvement in the Creation of National Monuments Act," their effort to make sure that no more land worth saving from mining, drilling, logging or fracking is indeed saved through executive action. It passed, of course, 222-201, but is unlikely to advance in the Senate, which is reason number infinity why we need the Senate.

To these cocksuckers there is nothing more beautiful than one of their scumbag leash-holders making money by strip-mining the land!

Wasn't that the idea? That as human society progressed, we wouldn't be held back by archaic laws based on archaic thinking? The founding fathers seem to have had a lot more faith in us than we often have for ourselves.
