Christians, would you kill for God?

I have to ask this in all seriousness.

If God really appeared before you and instructed you to murder someone would no part of you question your own sanity?

Surely it must at least cross you mind that you might be having a schizophrenic attack?

Assuming this possibility does occur - what would you do next?

Suppose the demand was worse than merely murdering an individual. Suppose, just for example, God asked you to fly a plane into a building?

Would being asked that raise some questions as to your own sanity?

Well it'd disprove everything I believe, but ignoring that.... Big Grin

Of course I would think I was insane. I'd present myself immediately to the nearest psychiatric hospital.

If I really was insane, or I really did think I saw what I saw, the outcome would be equally condemned by everyone, unless some others also knew of its validity... So how would you tell? I could be saving humanity, or existence, and your be thwarting my plan by obstructing me.

A core part of my belief is cross checking for validity. Crazies will be crazies no matter what.

Well I'm relieved.

I asked as you never mentioned the possibility during the previous discussion.

He who told me: "Let me get something straight. I wouldn't kill anybody if I felt the inkling that maybe God wants me to kill them. That's crazy. If I literally saw God and he audibly spoke to me and proved it was him. I'd be crazy not to do what he said." While I commend his efforts as a Christian seeking to live consistently with biblical morality, I had to point out the sickening truth to this confused soul: "So you would murder someone if you thought god genuinely told you to? Well guess what? So do a LOT of people who ACTUALLY DO murder people because they think God told them."

Given that Christians don't actually believe murder is itself wrong (just read the Bible-we're all sinners deserving of death and God is entitled to instruct people to kill others) but only that whatever God tells them is wrong is actually wrong, my question is... Would you, like this other lost Christian, murder if you thought God was instructing you to do so? Would you be a "hero of faith," like Jephthah who murdered his own daughter out of commitment to the Lord? Or would you, as I have to believe I would, face God's wrath and stand up for the principle that human life is valuable and to be appreciated, and disobey God?

My apologies if this has already been said but this is a long thread.

My first thoughts on killing somebody because god told me to would be to ask "Are you joking? Prove you're God and smite him yourself. You created the universe, have performed countless miracles and intervened when it suited you so what the hell do you need me to do your dirty-work for?"

I would then go and check myself into the nearest mental hospital.

I'm glad you agree

So can you present any logical rebuff or is that just your bare naked opinion?

How do you know that the Christian god is a perfect judge, making perfect directives?

It's all quite logical really.

God says to kill children and babies, only a perfect judge can legitimately order children and babies to be killed (anyone else would be a lunatic), therefore god must be a perfect judge.

Plus the bible says god is just and can do no wrong so it must be true.

In a nutshell.

It's technically impossible to do wrong when you get exclusive privilege to define what is right, but if that's an argument that you find compelling, then right and wrong don't actually have any meaning as concepts to you in the first place.

Hard to answer a dumb question.. now u see how dumb it is when u use that fairy tale book to measure what right or wrong.. GROW A PAIR!!

I'm guessing fr0do can't answer the dumb question because he just can't be honest with himself about what the Bible teaches us about the Judeo-Christian god. I don't blame fr0do. That's one of the devastating effects of molesting people's minds with fear.
