They should have blocked this bill, not because of religious reasons obviously, but because it is pointless. I'm sorry, but our state legislatures do not exist for the purpose of making eight year old girls feel good and special. Every state has a bunch of pointless state symbols, with no reason for making them other than to boost some politician's poll numbers by making some idiot feel overly proud of the region he was born/lived in. And all they do is clog up the system too. Both parties in SC are just going to grandstand on their position and take up time that could be used solving real problems for an ultimately pointless designation of a fossil.

Okay, let's go there: how on earth do you construe setting up a counter display alongside the christmas one, on public land, in full obedience with the law, "wanting it all their own way"?

I understand you haven't actually thought this through and are just being petty, but you could at least put some effort into it. Rolleyes

I consider myself a christian, yet I don't feel the need to protest or harass other religions. If Muslims for instance, wanted to display their religious beliefs, they have just as much right as anyone.

These atheists on the other have nothing better to do than to build a display celebrating the "Bill of rights" (lol), Surrounded by the founding fathers (all slave owners) in honor of a roman god.

And of course you, of all people, come to their defense.

Since atheists always stress their moral superiority (humanists), how about instead of spending money on a display that means nothing, donate it to the nearest soup kitchen.

Also why don't I ever see atheists protesting Islam? I guess it must be the whole fatwā thing.Wink

My irony meter just broke. I'll be suing for the cost of a new one, Huggy. You are being reckless.

Just not atheists with their big red A, right? Dodgy

Quote:These atheists on the other have nothing better to do than to build a display celebrating the "Bill of rights" (lol), Surrounded by the founding fathers (all slave owners) in honor of a roman god.

The christians have nothing better to do than build a display celebrating the "birth of the savior" (lol), surrounded by religious iconography (of a genocidal god) in honor of a middle eastern god. Dodgy

Quote:And of course you, of all people, come to their defense.

They don't require defense, since you haven't offered a cogent offense.

Quote:Since atheists always stress their moral superiority (humanists), how about instead of spending money on a display that means nothing, donate it to the nearest soup kitchen.

The same could be asked of every christian church, megachurch, religious display, ten commandments monument, or ark park across the world. And that "moral superiority" claim goes double for christians. Dodgy

You're not paying attention, which, after reading these arguments, doesn't surprise me. Every single one of your points could also be turned on the demonstrably larger christian apparatus, and yet you apparently have no trouble seeing the reasons why they do as they do... just not willing to spend even an iota of thought doing the same for a position you don't agree with, huh?

Ah well, it's hardly the only thing you don't think about, I'm sure. Rolleyes

In countries where islam is really an issue they kill you for being anything but a muslim.
And if most atheists are as fussed about it as I am they just go along with it. To be honest I'm not that bothered, I just find theists funny.

Oh please, if they didn't do stuff like this they wouldn't do anything. Consider the record of the 112th congress, just ended.

http://caffertyfile.blogs.cnn.com/2012/0...-problems/

Quote:Here's all you need to know about how worthless Congress is:

Of the thousands of measures introduced in the current Congress - only 132 passed.

And about 1 in 5 of those was to approve official names for post offices.

This country is circling the drain when it comes to runaway government spending and deficits - and 20% of the bills that got through Congress were to name post offices.

The political system has broken down to the point where designating a state fossil is almost a triumph.

In Arizona...we have a State "Gun." Of course.
