Oh, piss off. I wasn't trying to 'score political points'.
Really? Capital punishment is first and foremost a political issue. Why even bring it up if that isn't what you were trying to do?

As a hyperbolic commentary on the inhumanity of her behavior.
And I think capital punishment is first and foremost a moral issue.

I am still against the death penalty, but I'm not sure I would object to the grandparents of the child beating this woman to death if they so choose...
Also, I wonder why we hate her more? I believe the only reason the father (step father?) got a lessor sentence was because he testified against the mother. I wouldn't mind if the grandparents beat him to death as well.
Call me a horrible moral less person if you want. I am against the government getting to decide who lives and who dies, yes. I generally think murder is bad as well, but these are not people they are horrible baby killing monsters. They let that little baby suffer unimaginable pain for 2 days as his ruptured intestines leaked into his body. They most likely would have killed his little brother shortly after if they hadn't been stopped, he already had 5 broken ribs. I don't have a problem with killing cockroaches and they aren't really vicious or dangerous, so why should I have a problem with killing monsters?

Because the Justice System is not perfect nor do we have the ability to bring the unjustly executed back to life?
Wherever you slice it, it all breaks down to us (the government) choosing to execute another human.
Relabeling others to be "non-humans" simply obfuscates the issue.
Such is intellectually dishonest - so square this circle:
Quote:I am against the government getting to decide who lives and who dies, yes.
Quote: why should I have a problem with killing monsters?
No, you are not "a horrible moral less person" - you're inconsistent and using emotional thinking.
Ironically, people who use emotional thinking to back the death penalty forget that life imprisonment is a nonstop punishment.
Death is a quick way out. I'm not keen on giving the guilty an end to their mortal coil nor stripping the innocent of theirs due to corruption, incompetance or bad luck.

Honestly how'd the boyfriend get the plea deal? From what I read he said he kicked the kid in the stomach. He's getting 12 and a half years for murdering a four year old, that just seems like a fucked up form of justice. I know he got the plea deal because he testified against the mother, but it seems like he is mainly responsible.

I am. And I find it moderately shitty of you to use the horrific death of this little lad to try and score a political point. Shame on you.

Usually Boru, your posts are well thought, but this is just bull shit. I rather think that it is you who are using Chas' random comment to score points for the political agenda you carry and not the other way around. Shame on you for your gross hypocrisy. You could have easily just answered the question with "I am," and left it at that.

You're quite right.
Apparently, I'm too late edit the prior post. That being the case, I apologize for attempting to politicize a little child's horrible death. Wrong place, wrong time.
And a specific apology to Chas for posting before I thought through what you were getting at.

I am certain the question is just rhetorical, but even an extremely sad story like this does not change my mind regarding being anit-death-penatly.
