I don't know why, but I just find it to be really really sad that this man is going through a horrible traumatic pain and he has been lead to believe that some almighty being will, in return, bless his family.

Religious people tend to be under the misconception that their strange morals are indeed genuine because the rules come from a supposed deity. Nothing could be further from the truth, because religion allows otherwise rational men to behave irrationally and immorally.
