OK the situation in the USA is vastly different to what we experience in the UK.
Here 95% of the population don't give a monkeys about church, of those that do the majority are 80+ years old and not being replaced*. At the current rate of decline the church will become extinct in 20-30 years.
Despite this the state religion holds 26 unelected positions in parliament and maintains palaces for each of these at the tax-payers expense.
They also demand another significant slice of the tax-payers money through the education system by maintaining "Faith Schools" in which we are paying for the indoctrination of children, further since the church has finally admitted the problem falling numbers (though it still maintains the increasingly hollow claim to be the "centre of community") and now has established a deliberate policy of evangelising to children, through the entire state school system (which is somehow seen as a subsidiary of the church).
That you repeat the claims shows the extent and penetration of the propaganda within British Society.
What does the church stand for? Equality? So you wouldn't expect the church to demand to be exempt from equality laws for women, homosexuals, divorcees, etc.
Would you be surprised that the church is preaching hatred to children?
That faith schools teach anti-scientific dogma?
That churches promote the feelings of guilt, sexism, racism, condone fraud, acts of terrorism and mass murder?
This is why we need disestablishment and secular government, not for thought control, but freedom from the criminalisation of thought.
You only need to look back at our own history of the Interregnum to see where the religious will lead us given the opportunity.
