Play to your audience (oh, and the curriculum).

"The greatest deception men suffer is from their own opinions" - Leonardo da Vinci

"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)

I live in new jersey and creationist aren't common where I live, which is good, and Louisiana's actions are the reason I am leaving america to do research in another country(either Australia or japan still have yet to decide). If america doesn't want science I will take it else where(not counting where I live they want to learn something).

Regardless of what you may have read on the Internet neither education nor research is dead in the US. Seven of the top ten, thirty of the top 50 and 47 of the top one hundred universities in the world are located in the US. In the fields of engineering and technology the US has six of the top ten schools. In life sciences it is seven of the top ten, and in the physical sciences it is eight of top ten including the top six schools.

As far as R&D goes the US spends the most on R&D period. The US R&D budget is 40% of the whole world. We spent the most per capita PPP dollars, and we spend the most as a percentage of PPP adjusted GDP.

You may feel that you need to leave the US in order to pursue your career after graduation, but frankly just ruling out the possibility of work in the US is going to limit your opportunities rather than expand them.

I have my reasons for leaving the US. I don't really like the government, but I will keep that to myself in order to make sure no conflicts ensue.

A lot of Americas including myself don't like what our government has become. Running away with your tail between your legs isn't going to fix the problem. It isn't going to let you completely avoid the consequences of decisions made by the US government either as policy here often has effects that reach well beyond our borders.

But that isn't the reason you gave in the post I replied to. Your reason was America didn't want science. I called bullshit and explained that the US has the best post secondary schools and does the most research. The fact is the majority of Americans do want the science. The problem is a minority of Americans are electing a majority of our leaders. Leaders that don't want the science. By leaving instead of staying and helping by both voting for change and contributing via your research you become part of the problem instead of part of the answer.

I dont think you sound like an ass, but my statement about part of the problem stands. If you choose to run away from the problem rather than stay and confront it then dont be surprised when your complaints from afar about the US dragging the rest of the world down the toilet fall on deaf ears.

Camels. You should definitely talk about camels. They rock.

Understood. Just America is a problem for me.
