Overrated games

I'd really rather not go into the whole PC MASTER RACE bullshit. If you have to use mods to make a game better, then the game itself sucks. Period.

Since I've played mods for nearly every game I've owned, that must mean the game itself sucks, right?

Being able to tailor my experience is highly valuable to me. I'm sorry you hold little value for that.

I think he means more that if you need mods to enjoy a game then the game should have been better in the first place. I agree as far as console but on PC a game that can be easily modded makes for a far superior game.

Insanity understood what I was saying. What you're saying about mods completely misses the point. The title of this thread is overrated games. If a vanilla game is that poor that you rely on mods to make it good experience then yeah, that game sucks. How do you reach any other conclusion? I'm not saying mods are bad, but they shouldn't be involved in a discussion about whether or not games suck. Why? The same reason game reviewers don't take mods into account when dishing out their scores.

Chess is awesome at times, I agree.

Hide and Seek gets better the older you get, because you can make up your own expansions for it. Turn all the lights off and get a fake knive and play murder in the dark. Same rules apply as hide and seek, but it's dark. Once that gets old then drive to creepy locations (creepy run warehouse/chunk of forest) to do it, and give the seeker a paint ball gun or something. After you graduate from that you and your buddy are ready for the real deal, and can go out with real weapons and find some poor innocent prey. It really does get better with age.

A few issues with that:

-The game is typically played out-of-doors, which obviates the need to hide from an intruder.

-The game is a very old one, and likely comes from a time when 'hovel intrusion' wasn't much of a problem (also, not many places to hide in a mud hut).

-Sardines would be better for this.

*shrug* Resent whatever you like. I didn't say chess was a bad game or that people shouldn't play it, I simply listed it as 'overrated'. And it is - people make too much out of it and take it far too seriously.

Even the greats among the classic games are overrated as shit:

-Super Metroid
-Super Mario Bros. 3
-Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
-Chrono Trigger
-Final Fantasy III/VI
-Final Fantasy VII
-Ocarina of Time


To name a few. All fantastic games I would even call timeless classics, but get hyped as shit by many, to the point where the flaws are just glossed over, few though they may have.

For instance, OoT was slow and the combat too stiff. I still enjoyed it and thought it was fantastic, but perfect most certainly not, and especially not a decade and a half later.

Yeah, I think Zelda is the most overrated game out there actually. Final Fantasy is pretty overrated too. Well, at least by the die hard FF fans who like to cosplay and get tattoos on their arm of their favourite FF characters (I knew someone who did this).
