What about Unreal Tournament, GOTY edition... from way back in 1999?
Anything can play it smoothly...
Yeah.. My family couldn't afford a PC when I was 7. Certainly not one I would have been allowed to play video games on..
And honestly I'd never even heard of unreal tournament until the last few years. I'm not one of those "I don't care about graphics" gamers either. I want to be able to see things that aren't made of big ugly squares.
Big ugly squares.... ut.... pfffff, you clearly don't know UT.
It has big beautiful squares!

Battlefield was a decent FPS series. Unfortunately, I think DICE/EA destroyed it with BF4's loooong list of bugs, glitches, and problems. Come to think of it, anything EA touches turns to shit.

Objectively, Skyrim is overrated.
It's received so many perfect 10's on review sites. The game has so many issues that it simply doesn't warrant a perfect 10. You cannot deny this. The game is overhyped and overrated.
That does not mean to say I think it is a bad game. That's not at all what I'm saying. Like I said earlier in this thread, I've put 600 hours into Skyrim, I do indeed love it. But I can't consider it a perfect game, a game that I would give a 10/10 to. That's why it's overrated. Honestly, I think anyone who disagrees must be viewing Skyrim with some rose-tinted glasses.
Any game with level-scaling mobs is overrated. I fight a couple monsters in an area of Skyrim, and they're my level-- I come back after gaining my uber near-end-game powers, and. . . they're my level. wtf? I came to wipe out a fucking town with a single fireball, not not have a "fair challenge" in a level 1 zone.

In terms of dollar-for-dollar and minute-for-minute fun, UT is wayyyy near the top of my list. I'd put it in a 3-way tie with the early Gran Turismo and Final Fantasy games.
All three are proof that games have gotten shinier but not better, imo.

For me shiny is better in its own way. I love stepping out into a huge beautiful environment. It really helps the immersion when I don't have to squint to figure out what the hell somethings meant to be.
That said game-play matters too. I like both good game-play with good graphics. I'm not willing to give up completely for the other.

At the time, everything was pre-rendered.... which made it a bit limiting...but my mouth waters for what Myst could have been, had it been done nowadays!!

Essential NPCs say "hello". It's helpful if you don't want civilians to die pointlessly, but it's also positively unreal. It sucks for people who enjoy killing people. Such as... me.
... "Black Path", anyone? Vivec wants you to kill Vivec, after all.

NaughtyDog games.
I'm playing "The Last of Us" right now. A bit underwhelming.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

FUCKING THIS!
Uncharted has always been something of a mystery to me. Like, it's a pleasant enough game to play, there aren't many areas you can really fault it, but, it lacks that certain something. It's almost like the devs were being a bit safe, I dunno.
I didn't ever end up getting TLOU because I knew it would probably underwhelm me like Uncharted did.

I agree that Uncharted is overrated, specially when fanboys claim it is the best game of all time for the PS3.. In my opinion, UC 2 and 3 were pretty cool games and challenging to play on crushing difficulty, UC1 was acceptable, but they are not the best games of all time, they have some nice graphics, a regular storyline, some cool fighting scenes and puzzles, but that's it... I wouldn't rate them even a 9 (from 0 to 10)
Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you

I look at Uncharted like this, they're basically doing what Tomb Raider did all those years ago. Thing is, Tomb Raider was pretty revolutionary for the time it came out, Uncharted, to me, doesn't exactly push any boundaries. The adventure genre has quite a few games similar in style to Uncharted. Hardly any of them are as well done, but, in the end, Uncharted isn't nothing new or exciting. To me at least.
