Father Disowned Me Because I'm Still Atheist
RE: Father Disowned Me Because I'm Still Atheist
I wonder naimless, why you think your situation is anything like his? Why you think your family is comprable to his? We all go through transitioning phases with our families and surprisingly (not) the transitions' difficulty is directly proportional to the reverence observed to religion by the family. Some religions are worse than others. Some families are worse than others. Cults are DEfinitely the hardest. Were you in a cult nameless? Did you react perfectly towards your family when you were being verbally attacked?

I still can't believe you guys keep blaming the victim. No, its NOT okay to rape a girl wearing a short skirt because she's wearing a short skirt, and no its not okay to defend the abuser. Anyone inducted into a cult and being emotionally blackmailed by their family deserves nothing but sympathy.
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

OK, so just to be clear on this. Your lack of a response is an admittance that you were wrong and I was right? Or that you made stupid assertions that are not backed up by the evidence and now feel like an idiot? Or you actually realised that you have no idea what you are talking about and cannot empathise with the OP at all? Maybe all of the above? Its either that or you're a troll as I said previously.

Oh don't bother, I doubt you will get an answer cause I think I broke him. He seems unable to respond with words anymore.

My dad died this past January. I wish I'd argued less with him while he was living. Good luck.

I never blamed him. I just said he wants to disown his father. I'm not judging that. As for being verbally attacked... if you knew my country, religion, and parents, you would not approach me in this way. But yes, the world is fucked. It's not ideal. So either compromise with the people you do not agree with or admit you are a lone soldier because you chose to be that way. e.g. your post was worthy of my consideration, but I disowned Big Wolf a long time ago.

His father stopped associating with him because he was a cunt, not because he was an atheist.

I don't boast publicly about my beliefs or lack of them on Facebook as I would not like to read someone else doing the same about theirs.

I have respectfully declined to attend the churches of my parents on many occasions. Occasionally they will still try and convince me to go, like on Christmas.

Sometimes I will go because it is easier than spending the day having an argument, I am capable of respectfully observing another history/culture objectively, and I like presents and Christmas dinner.

Now, regarding the job situation, a lot of youths are struggling currently and it is probably best to keep as many friends as possible, even if you do not agree with their religion.

For the most part I have found Christians to be quite charitable people. I have also found that friends come and go more-so than family.

In short, OP wants to disown his father because his father is not an atheist.

I'm pretty sure the title of the thread says the opposite of what you just said. I'm just trying to understand where you got 'OP wants to disown his father' from, well, any of his posts. Ascribing false motivations is classic victim blame game tactics.

His father is a Mormon. His father likes to do Mormon shit. His father invites him to do Mormon shit. His father gets ridiculed, disrespected, and shamed for inviting him to do Mormon shit. His father doesn't invite him to do other shit he likes or believes in.

OP doesn't get disowned because he is an atheist. He disowns himself from his father by not accepting him as a Mormon and bragging about atheism. He can be an atheist and still remain tactful to maintain a better relationship with his father. If he can't respect the religious views of his father then he can disown him.

His father read a post that his son posted on Facebook which is his humanity given right to say-- and the father sends a chastisimg, seethingly passive aggressive letter that has more connotations than you or I could ever possibly know.
Lets put this in perspective. *goes to Facebook, selects first family member I see

my cousin Wrote:I took my nieces to my childhood church today. They were so great. Alayena had never been to church before and she loved it. I am honored to be a part of their spiritual lives. Thankful for my family. #Ordercreatesorder #Noorderoutofchaos #Wearenoaccident

Now, according to you, he'd be in the wrong if I went and messaged him something like, 'Sorry to hear you were wasting your time at church when you could've been having family brunch with us sane people. Btw have you found a job yet, jobless MC job jobless boy? Maybe Karma hates you for being in a cult so that's why you don't have a job. Atheism saves! No one died for you!'

That would be uncalled for, and you know it Wink

I can't see your logic on this I'm afraid.

His father invites him to do Mormon shit. His father gets ridiculed, disrespected, and shamed for inviting him to do Mormon shit. Mormonism is most definitely a highly invasive cult. His father doesn't invite him to do other shit he likes or believes in. His father is disowning him because they have no common ground now that he will not submit to the abusive nature of the cult just to be accepted by his own family.

Bold added by me. Thoughts?

Rule 14. And yes, OP could be a cunt to his father and want to disown his father because he perceives his father is a cunt to him and wants to disown him.

Mutual disowning is very rare indeed I would think. And yet again, you have made a claim that is unsupported by the evidence. Do you ever get tired of asserting things over and over again?

I suggest you do some studies on cults. If you look up the WEBSTER definition, you're in one.

It's you whose in denial, friends. The fact that you stood up for the abuser of the situation, says everything as to your abnormal mindset.

I'm no theist and I honestly couldn't give a flying fuck if you mean it, or really mean it...or really, really mean it. I do have "an abnormal mindset" though, whatever the fuck that is.

I have apologised for making assumptions to the OP, maybe you could stop doing the same.
