Agreed, that day has not come - but today - we need immigrants, legal or illegal, to provide the necessary production of goods and services which fund (and in some cases comprise) our public services at all. We aren't losing billions in welfare to them - because they aren't eligible. We lose nothing, we gain everything - why isn't our immigration policy even more open than it currently is (especially if we want to be able to afford that new robot economy)?

-A side thought, maybe we should do everything possible to make our southern border even less secure. To the point where it becomes a juicy target for a credible invading force. Would give the mujahideen in the SW US something to do rather than pester the rest of us with sharia. eh?

If immigration law (law in general) were capable of -stopping terrorists- there would be no terrorists. Nevertheless, I can understand criminal screening. Jobs in the US do that anyway - unless they can't, because a person is illegal (and therefore does not have a record/dependle id). In any case, finding terrorists is no more justification for any immigration policy than it is for a domestic policy. Citizens should be subject to the same sorts of shit that immigrants (legal or otherwise) are if that were our reasoning.

It isn't more open because there is a perception that a flood of immigrants who are allowed to work will dilute the ability of the Americano to command a living wage. A closed boarder is just as racist as a minimum wage in my opinion(minimum wage in this country was implemented to keep Blacks and Orientals from underbidding whites in the labor market).

I'm fine if they check in, get fingerprinted so's we know they're not drug lords etc, and get to work. It's been my experience as a retail manager in California for fifteen years that immigrants work harder than the young Americans being raised in this Dr. Spockified world of snowflakes and trophies.

Meh, IDK, that's a bit too far out there for me. Nothing intrinsically racist about a minimum wage, the manner in which some government may go about setting one would be another story.

I said take over, not invite them. They want to come to the US. Let's just make Mexico US soil then everyone but el presidente and the cartels will be happy.
