Property values, tax revenue and employment are way up. Crime, violent and non-, is way down. The state is pulling in tens of millions in revenue and saving almost as much from the elimination of cannabis arrests. People are happy. Lives aren't being ruined nearly as much by this extremely racist drug war the rest of the country seems intent on continuing against its own citizens.
Can we please stop being colossally stupid about this and legalize it everywhere? Like, now?

You know the rules.
The only reason it's "illegal" is because the govt doesn't get its cut from it.
The world's biggest killers are alcohol and tobacco and the govt has decided that they are perfectly OK for human consumption.... Fucking money hungry hypocrits!

Indeed. During prohibition you could buy powdered grape juice that came with instructions that told you very carefully what not to do with it because if you did why that would make wine. Which would be illegal.

Just to play devil's advocate a little, maybe they are such large killers because they are legal and therefore widespread.When people say this it always sounds like more of an argument for legalizing tobacco and alcohol than for the legalization of weed. Would people really risk jail time for cigarettes?

Yes, they would. In fact they already do. Cigs can be considered contraband, and prisoners can have their sentences extended for repeated violations. They don't seem to stop smoking because of this.... It's an addiction, the normal risk/reward behavior has been modified -by use of the substance-. That's what makes "sin tax" such a lucrative proposition for government. They know that people won't stop, they're counting on them not stopping - but they get to wash their hands about it as they cash the check.
