Simon, notwithstanding some of his logical arguments, that (his attitude) was definitely the strongest thing about his writing that conveyed itself to me upon reading it. Not saying that he is not completely correct; but he just came across as arrogant and condescending. I liked Hitchens much better, is all I am saying.

I too prefer Hitchens. I love Dawkins' popular science books. However, The God Delusion is indeed angry and arrogant. But I understand where he's coming from. If religious people kept interrupting my life's work to say it didn't exist and that I was part of a conspiracy, I might get a little tetchy too. I like him better in person. The documentary is much better than the book.

I also enjoyed 'The Greatest Show on Earth : The Evidence for Evolution.' by Dawkins.
I've used it as a reference book many times. :-)

I've personally never read any book from the most well known atheist personalities, to my greatest unhappiness, but I'm looking forward to it. I've however seen various youtube videos/documentaries and I prefer Richard Dawkins the most. Perhaps the british accent makes his arguments sound better, or he is just more appealing to me, but I love seeing him crushing theists on debates. Sounds like a nice guy to meet in real life.

The accent part was a joke obviously, I like Hitchens too. I also like a portuguese personality called José Saramago, as a portuguese he is the only popular atheist I can recall and kind of an hero for portuguese atheists. He won the literature nobel prize once, and wrote some really disturbing books about religion, the church tried to make them illegal, they failed redundantly.

Aw, ol' Hitch Every year on his birthday I sit down with a highball of Johnnie Walker and savor a cigarette out on my balcony. Tis a thrilling tribute to the man that helped me to atheism.
