I still see homophobia as being on the ropes. They might try get a few swings in but they haven't much hope. Uganda isn't exactly the champion of modern and rational ideas. Some places take longer to catch up.

Some places take longer to catch up. They'll take quite some time. In western europes homophobes have lost. It is a matter of time before all States legalize adoption, most have overcome the problem of gay marriage

Russia is more religious than you think. They have embraced Russian orthodoxy with some passion. Though I see Russia's anti gay sentiment as an attack on western values as a big part of it.

The hostility to religion is not so big as it was during Stalin's era. But there are still lots of atheists and anti-theists as an influence from the communist time. At least they aren't so religious as the US. I think it's more prejudice than any other thing.. Even Stalin didn't like gays

Unsurprising - Stalin didn't like ANY one.

I am surprised as well. Maybe it has been quiet on the forums, but I don't think most of them are going to accept it any time soon. I think most christians take the Mike Huckabee approach, and say "When god comes down from heaven himself to change the rule, then I'll change my mind." So, most of them aren't changing they're mind any time soon. I hear them all the time talking about how the devil is taking over this country pointing to homosexuality, atheism, fashion, music, the internet, video games, the government, etc. Religion blows..

I think one thing that is happening is that as it becomes more acceptable to come out, homophobes are discovering that they know many more gay folk than they had thought, including, often, their own children. And while some of them will shun them out of kneejerk bigotry, many are, I think, taking to heart the idea that gayness is a a character trait, but not a flaw.

I think the reason some people don't like homosexuals, and why it will unfortunately come up again, is that most people with kids eventually want to have grandkids. Finding out your son is gay is a big blow to an expectant grandparent-- and it is usually men of the grandparent age who run the government in most countries.
I have one son. If he's gay, I'll be unhappy about it because I want grandkids with my name attached to them-- no other reason. I don't care what he does sexually, who he marries, etc. But I do want natural-born grandkids rather than adopted ones.

I watched Admiral a Russian movie (read propaganda) about the Russian revolution. It had a lot of priests.
And I found a stat about how homophobic Jordan is, I can't imagine how homophobic Libya would be (they think Libya has no homosexuals or atheists, I guess I don't exist)
