And what would happen if we proved your faith was false?

Hold hard - we're in danger of being led off course by a red herring.

Nobody's yet been challenging your faith, Matt - I mean, carm - so far we've been looking at your beliefs. Beliefs can be true or false; faith can be justified or unjustified. Please don't muddy the water by equivocation.

Have you been looking? Or have you been finding ways to rationalise things so as to boost your faith?
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

And how pervasive are these beliefs ??

Could you pass even a trivial test of religious sincerity ??

I might cite your lack of rigor as proof.

My purpose in life would be gone

That is sad.

We all have purposes in our lives.

Most atheists are former believers. I'll bet they all have purposes in their lives.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

You mean you'd be unable to find a purpose that's your own? That's a bit bleak, especially considering the immensity of the universe. C'mon, use your imagination! I'm sure you can think of something to which you can apply yourself.

I meant, would you then stop believing in a God, if you saw compelling evidence that suggested there is no God?

Yeah, this is usually the point where people expect reasons in support of the belief. Have any?

I believe this, since I seriously doubt that you have spent ten minutes looking into the matter. However, just to give you the undeserved benefit of the doubt, please provide a list of relevant books you have read concerning (1) the history of Biblical times/places, (2) recent -- and by that I mean anything written since the 18th Century -- scholarship concerning the Bible, (3) comparative mythology, and (4) philosophy of religion. Bonus points for anything concerning cosmology, evolution, and/or rebuttals of the usual apologetics tripe offered up here.

Or have you actually come to the conclusion that your faith is true without having even got through the Torah? Tell me you're not that dim.

Now I know you're lying, for sympathetic effect.

The reason I can say that is you've come up against the wall of realising that atheists, lacking such faith in your beliefs, might actually have purposeful lives. Rather than admit that, you play the Disingenuous Sympathy card. Sorry; bust.

No I have gone through most of the Bible stories, it is just the first time reading them in order from start to finish.

No I haven't read any books that you have listed for two reasons, I have never come across any and I want to build my faith up not read this time of books until I have at least finidhed my read oc the Bible.

No, I am not being emotional, my life would have no point and I would feel lost.

No because I believe him to be true no matter what.
