People with nice lives who think they're blessed

RE: People with nice lives who think they're blessed
Does what you "gain" from a bowl of icecream disappear when the last spoonful is gone? When you turn the last page of a book are the contents of that book thusly whisked away into nothingness?

Yes, in the end, we all die - was this just recently explained to you?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Mozart, don't make me sorry that I had a moment of compassion and tried to commiserate with you over your condition. Your nihilism is nothing more than you projecting, however hard you try to convince yourself and others that it's a sturdy philosophical position. If you had a normally functioning brain and experienced the usual pleasures of life, we wouldn't be hearing a word about the meaninglessness of it all from you.

As for the inevitability of death . . . News Flash: We know! How one chooses to face up to that fact is the gut check we all have to make. You can either curl up like a worm, or you can face it with resigned courage. I don't give a damn which you choose, but don't think for a minute that you get to tell me or anyone else that the struggle is meaningless just because it doesn't last into eternity. Your opinion is not normative -- especially since it is conditioned by a medical condition.

It may be a 'cold' truth to YOU, not to me at least. In all honesty, it is much more awesome to experience life (with all the "good" or "bad" parts), than to not having such chance.

But I do agree with some other members, the OP is a one-trick-pony. Three threads about the same BS. You find real life miserable, big deal, grab the ball from the floor and suck it up. Its as if whining would get you anywhere.

I am more of a "glass half-full" person myself...I have my health and all my arms and legs. I grew up in a safe place when there wasn't a war on. Although I am separated from my wife right now I always make the most of what there is to be had and I get a lot of pleasure seeing my kids and doing stuff with them. I feel life is what you make it.
It's not immoral to eat meat, abort a fetus or love someone of the same sex...I think that about covers it

If I have a glass half-empty, I ask for a another one, and while the bartender gets it, I finish emptying it. That way, when the glass is completely empty, A full one will land in front of me.

Certain types of suffering under certain conditions has actually made me a better person.

Frankly, if life was 'perfect' and everything went my way all of the time, I think I'd find life quite boring.
Even if you did become a better person, it would of all been gained for nothing since you would just lose it all in the end anyway by dying of old age. As for being an inspiration to others through your betterment, these others would also just die in the end as well anyway.

I don't give a fuck about the time that happened before I was born because I didn't exist to care. I also will not give a fuck about the time that happened after I die because I will cease to exist. I just hope that I will have some impact on this world that can change it in some way for the better. In the meantime, please spare us your pseudo-philosophical whining.
Luke: You don't believe in the Force, do you?

Han Solo: Kid, I've flown from one side of this galaxy to the other, and I've seen a lot of strange stuff, but I've never seen *anything* to make me believe that there's one all-powerful Force controlling everything. 'Cause no mystical energy field controls *my* destiny. It's all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense.

Life, like your beloved video games, starts out easy and then moves on to other levels. I assume you are in your twenties. Time for you to squirm and learn. You loved being the master at the easy levels. Now you're not sure you want to continue the game? Fortunately when I went through that I didn't have the option to broadcast my foolishness out over the internet. But I don't think I ever felt as entitled to the good stuff as you seem to feel. You might try seeing the good stuff as a gift. Try to deserve it.

But it is meaningful to him and his loved ones NOW. It doesn't matter that there is no meaning after he dies.

That's like saying that you won't take care of your car now, because someday it will rot, rust and be useless. The car is useful NOW.

Please spare us from more of your nihilistic, existential angst.

Devil

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
