It's an odd passage. obviously people can't really command mountains to move or fig trees to die. Why would Jesus' reaction to seeing a fig tree without figs be to kill the tree instead of telling it to start sprouting figs? Not that there wasn't a good reason there weren't any figs. It was out of season. There's something in proverbs, I believe, that says for everything there is a season. It just wasn't the season for figs.

God hates figs.

But why did Jesus, able to raise Lazarus from the dead, to make the lame to walk, to make the blind to see, just not snap His fingers (wiggle His nose?) and fix the fucking fig tree ??
