Yes. We send the rest of the world's religious fundamentalists over there to join in the holy war. Once they have mostly killed each other off we mop up the rest with a few nukes, and the world lives happily ever after.

Hopefully, it won't be the U.S., but it's looking like SOME country is going to have to send troops to eliminate them, KNOWING that if you are captured, you WILL be killed.

BTW - If Mecca was nuked, there would be a holy war, the likes of which has never been seen before. NOWHERE in the world would there be a "peaceful" Muslim.

Sufis and ahmadiyya are kinda better, but their dying because for some reason the more peaceful (but still can be very bigoted) sects are more new age-ish and the more "logical" (and less westernised) sects are violent.

Sunnis and Shiites equally suck though (I used to think Shiites were better cause I was raised a Sunni :p)

There are plenty of alternative energy sources, fracking, nuclear, renewables, so that's probably not a driver. The main problem is that many countries are waging proxy wars across the region, the Russians support Assad so the west supports the insurgents, or did up until now, and find themselves on the wrong side.

If these powers could put their own interests to one side and agree to fix the problem it would be done within months.

That's the problem with the way the Western democracies are structured: no people of principle are ever elected.
