Islam is probably neither peaceful or violent if you go by the verses of the quran.
If you go to an Islamic website where the goal is to make Islam seem peaceful they will say things along the lines of
In Islam it is forbidden to attack women, children, animals, damage property, attack an enemy soldier who is injured or someone who repents and establishes prayer.
Really? I find this difficult to believe.
Ancient warfare wasn't as intelligence based as it is today but they still had spies and some tactics. If Islam was this ridiculously peaceful in ancient warfare then a person fighting against Islam would have eventually picked up on this knowledge and just came up with a tactic something like
Ok boys lets just hide in our homes, send out the armed women children and the dogs..
In this day and age it would be impossible for an islamic army who follows these rules to exist.
The women in the chinese army outnumber the total number of combatants in most other nations armies, all china would have to do to conquer the entire Islamic world would be to send out a massive army of women and that would be it.
So that's the unrealistically peaceful side of Islam then you get the other side.
I was on a website the other day which was a fanatical Islamic website of the magazine called Inspire.
One of the articles on there basically said something like civilians of western countries deserve to be targeted because then they will wake up and realize why they are being targeted and it's because of their leaders, and if it has the opposite effect and they decide to hate muslims because muslims are killing them then they deserve to die anyway.
The rules of the quran go from never being friends or allies with disbelievers to keeping oaths and deals with disbelievers, to saying its ok to pretend to be friends with disbelievers, to fighting and killing pagans and then also saying there's no compulsion in religion.
I think if 5 very intelligent lawyers sat down and separately had to come to conclusions of what the rules of the quran and hadith say combined they would come away with 5 totally different ideas.
Same exact thing in Christianity, I was on a website the other day that explained to me why Jesus would have been OK with american soldiers, and I suppose it made some fairly good points, if you believe in Jesus and you want to join the army I can imagine you would feel better after reading the article.
I still think it's a big jump to get from (1) turning the other cheek, loving your enemies to (2) flying halfway around the world and shooting someone's brains out from far away with a high powered sniper rifle who's name you don't even know.
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.
