People come to atheism all sorts of ways. But many many of us were once Christian, or Muslim or Mormon or something else. Many, like me have been raised in very actively Christian household and were subjected to plenty of religious education. Frankly, I've just about all the immersion I can stand.
Since then I have read other things I'd be happy to share. But I don't think you'd like to immerse yourself in some secular critical studies of the Bible?

Like those of us who are former devout Christians who have actually read the whole bible.
We get told not to question. When you ask why god would make us curious and tell us not to question you get punished.

Where you really a devout christian or did you never really accept christianity once you reached the age of reason? As far as reading the bible goes, it takes a lot more than a reading to understand ancient writings. There's so much you need to know about the purpose, style of writing, cultural factors, etc. Also, if you're not open to the spiritual realm, you're just not going to ever the grasp the meaning of scripture.

I like to question, and you guys give me plenty of questions. Did your parents actually punish you for asking questions about the faith? That's one sure way to turn someone against it, but it's not a good reason to disregard it.

I was very devout. There are plenty of parts of the bible that are clear in their meanings but far too many that are vague or contradictory.
My mother certainly tried to. Fortunately my father's an atheist, too.

For such an important thing, you wouldn't expect it to be difficult to figure out of god was real or not. He wants a relationship with you, from what I've heard, and many people who go to church want a relationship with him. Yet there are people who become quite invested in it but still leave. The idea that none of them were real true christians is a weak excuse. No one can really say what's going on in each person's head, but I wouldn't discount all former christians as just not putting enough effort into it.
If god wants to be with us so bad, he needs to come to us in a way that we can all understand. If he's really all knowing, he knows what it will take for each of us to believe, so it's on him to convince us.

Watch out, Beccs, or he's going to tumble that you're not a real scotsman.
I recommend one of these:
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

I was the reason Scotland wanted out of the Union.

Wouldn't you be better off getting rid of Wales?
