Peanut Gallery Commentary on the Staff Log of Bannings and such like.
RE: Peanut Gallery Commentary on the Staff Log of Bannings and such like.
Nestor, we have the rules for a reason.

It's not as though Randy didn't receive multiple warnings and one actual banning for plagiarising previously.

You ignore multiple warnings you take the consequences.

He obviously refused to take a break as I often do. xD

I'm still trying to figure out how Randy was engaging

Kudos is a word.  Derived from Greek, as a matter of fact.

For one, it seems like a pretty silly offense, and even if you want to justify such a ban per the rules of the forum (which I would criticize in Randy's case, as he always engaged specific critiques), why disallow PMs?

Really, it more comes down to whether a person respects temporary bans and repeated warnings. He didn't, and that's the real problem: a lack of respect towards the staff's enforcement on smaller offenses very much leads enforcement protocols higher and higher until all that's left is the final protocol.

Whether I was party to the majority decision or not, is irrelevant: there was a majority decision, and it was to permanently ban him. It was a very heavily discussed topic, and in the end: that's the decision that won the votes. It's certainly not from a single offense of plagiarism that we have reached the point of a permanent ban.

If Randy particularly wants to come back, and is willing to engage with largely original content (and certainly only his own content): he can appeal to the staff for a decision reversal, and for all I know he might get it. Depends on how he does it, and IF he does it.

Quote:This, i.e. the elimination of all "our" more engaging opponents, is what makes me completely disinterested in these forums at this point... it's like this place is only useful if I get the urge to come smell my own shit.

I do not know who "your" 'opponents' are.... but I would say that very much depends on the people of the forum (including you) not dogpiling upon people with viewpoints that differ from those held by the majority... and for when they get banned by the staff: we're fairly reasonable until someone either takes it way way over the line, or ignores and disrespects what our official interaction with them represents.

Thanks, Violet. I respect the decision, as you have explained it. I guess part of me, having PM'd with Randy a little after his first ban, thought "his heart was in the right place" is all... :/

I found him annoying and unresponsive but I suppose that just means we had too little in common to connect. Never happy to lose a theist voice here but I don't really think he had anything new left to plagiarize anyhow. I guess he just felt his mission here was too important to entrust his own voice to do the job. I always hate to see people abnegate their own voice. It is sad.

Rules are rules, and if you deliberately break them after being given several warnings and even a temporary ban then the admins have no choice but to ban you.

He was only here to preach at us, as far as I could see. If he was here to do anything else, I certainly didn't notice it. I'm glad to hear some people got more out his presence than I did. He's far from the only one here to preach at us, though. I don't think that in itself should be a bannable offense as long as some sort of discussion is being offered.

Continually and deliberately passing off other people's work as your own is not only immoral but actually illegal, isn't it?

Not that anyone has asked, but I support the decision based on the rules violations, regardless of my opinion of him personally.

I dunno, sometimes it's great seeing someone throw themselves into the scattershot of shit after it hits the fan.

Exactly. Once they lose authority then it lets everyone else starts trying to break the rules and they can no longer moderate.
