I think it has to be the pain of psychic estrangement from not just pleasure but also from a sense of being yourself. The unconscious mind normally contributes associations and insights which makes the world more interesting and enables even intellectual satisfactions.

...not to imply that I'm likable, smart, witty, or *shudder* admirable. But I know of what Stimbo speaks.
I think a lot of people would include you in that description, myself included.

And that still only gives you authority in your own views of death. The fallacy you're practicing is generalizing from a particular.

I have the right to generalize since it's a well known fact.
It's not like Muslims aren't afraid. But it's true, death in Islamic communities is less feared than atheist communities.

Even if that's true, I don't think that's necessarily a positive thing.
Also, let it be clear that death has two definitions; the act of dying and the state of being dead. I don't think any atheists are afraid of the latter, only the act of dying is scary as it terminates the life they so value.
It is quite scary that many Muslims do not seem to value life as much, an example is when a suicide bomber said (paraphrasing) that to him, death is more valuable than the lives of all he would kill.
Disclaimer; I know most Muslims do not act and view the world in this way and the extremists are a minority. The great majority of Muslims, I'm sure including you, are perfectly good people. I am merely concerned about what the Islamic faith can lead people to do.

Well, for me it's both exceedingly complicated and frustratingly simple. However, as I'm fairly high on the rollercoaster at the moment I don't really feel like going into the reasons here. If nothing else it would come across as self-indulgent whining and crash the thread. I do try not to make it four, though there are never going to be guarantees.
Oh, and thank you. I just wish the level of my likability didn't seem to be in inverse ratio to people's distance from me.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

You have the right to generalize because that is how you choose to run your intellectual life. Not having any information on which to base your flippant generalizations is your privilege .. and probably the best you personally can do. However when it comes to convincing others in the public marketplace of ideas your haphazard generalizations are worth nothing.

Unfortunately, the truth doesn't care about our feelings. Many atheists simply want the truth and are willing to sacrifice their security and comfort in mythical otherworlds and moral absolutes to attain it.

I am terrified from death. Mainly leaving life without fulfillment and achieving something worthwhile.
