Is Obama a President or King?

Barack should play more Golf. Anything to keep him away from the White House.

That's rich.

I see that you've bought into the narrative that it is only the republicans which refuse to govern. This simply isn't true. When Bush was president, the democrats played games too. They insured the immigration bill Bush was espousing didn't get passed so as not to make the republicans look good on immigration heading into the 2008 election.

The difference between Bush and Obama is Bush did not change his mind. For 6 years Obama claimed he could do anything about immigration and now suddenly changes his tune. When the democrats effectively killed the Bush immigration bill by stacking it with amendments they knew the republicans would not vote for....Bush gave up. He did not change his tune like Obama and now claim that he could change existing laws via executive order.

This is all very amusing to me. What are those opposed to Obama's action really opposed to?

I find it difficult to believe the 'rule of law' canard. We haven't declared war since WWII, but that hasn't spared young men and women from death and injury or saved the trillions spent conducting war that really isn't war. The argument falls a little flat.

The argument that Obama is somehow usurping Congress' power is silly for another reason. In April of last year, the Senate passed the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act (68-32). The House didn't take it up, instead promising to create a bill of their own. One was drafted, by a Republican, only to be shelved by Boehner in July; a full year after ignoring the Senate bill. Bush also tried to get a comprehensive bill passed, but again was thwarted by Congress. Congress is clearly not doing its job, so what's the grumbling about?

Obama hasn't changed the law. He is simply delaying deportation of those that have family members here legally or that are citizens, pending legislation that is promised but never delivered. I don't understand why this is upsetting? Do those opposed truly want parents of American citizens deported? What becomes of the kids? Do you want them deported too? I suppose it's reasonable to expect from people that laud an ancient that implored people to abandon their families in order to follow him.

Keep in mind that the situation only exists because of how fucked up the current law is. If Congress doesn't like what the President is doing then they should get off their ass and fix the problem through legislation. And I don't want to hear some lame Demo/Repub bullshit here. Both parties have done nothing but cock-block two Presidents on the issue, so fuck 'em all.

In the current situation I can only lay blame on half of Congress since the Senate passed a reform bill. And even here, Representatives of the majority party did draft a bill, but leadership refused to put it on the floor. It should be obvious now where the fucking problem is so get off the President's ass and jab your pitchforks in the right direction.

I did not vote for Obama (didn't vote for Romney either), and could hardly be considered a fan, but I have absolutely no problem with his course of action here. He's been more than patient.

Hell, the first president to use executive orders was Lincoln; are you questioning whether he was a president or king?

And, in all honesty, this is about the only way Obama is going to be able to accomplish anything. The GOP has made it crystal clear that they aren't going to approve any significant legislation that he'll ever be able to take credit for. I mean, had they ever bothered to write up their own immigration package, they'd have more to stand on. As it is, it feels like all they're doing is saying "No, I don't like your idea" without ever offering an idea of their own.

Don't confuse him with facts, Tara. Don't confuse him with logic either. He can't learn.

No, I haven't.

You're particularly unperceptive. I think both Republicans and Democrats are full of shit.

And you, as well.

It has the same effect. If the president can issue an executive order...say telling the government to stop prosecuting human traffickers and instead focus on prosecuting j-walkers.....it would have the same effect as making slavery legal. It has the same effect of changing the law.

The presidents job is to uphold the laws of the United States. His job is not too find ways to circumvent laws he doesn't like.

Seems to me you don't know what the president's job is at all Heywood. I don't see anything here about keeping Mexicans out of the states. Confusedhrugs:

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I'm really glad to hear that you're a fair and open minded guy who's not a racist prick like everyone else you accuse whenever they disagree with you. I'm sure you'll join me in voting for Lt. Col. Allen West and former Secretary of State, Dr. Condoleeza Rice for President and Vice President in 2016...West and Condi, 2016!
